New Pastor To Serve At Escalante Baptist Church ESCALANTE "If you don't involve yourself in the community, you alienate yourself," says Pastor Daniel Parish, the new pastor at First Baptist Church in Escalante. So, Parish is setting out to make certain that he and his family do become be-come active participants in their new community as he takes over the reins at First Baptist Church of Escalante. A special installation service will be held Friday night at 7 p.m. 1 at the church which meets in the Escalante Community Center. Parish Par-ish formerly served as youth pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Farmington, Farm-ington, N.M, a large independent Baptist church. Speaking at Friday night's service will be Pastor Dan Mauldin of Farmington's Grace Baptist. The 31-year-old. minister is excited about his new calling in this remote rural community "one of the most beautiful areas I've lived in." he says. He also taught math and history for five years at the junior and senior high level at a private Christian schools in Farmington and in the San Francisco Fran-cisco Bay area in California. He is talented in music and served as music mu-sic and choir director for chur-ches and their schools. He is a graduate of Bob Jones University in Greenville, Green-ville, S. C. Parish said his dad had pastored churches in rural areas of California and Colorado for some 30 years and his parents are currently on a five-year five-year mission to Australia. Growing Grow-ing up in rural areas prepared Parish for his own calling to serve small churches in such areas as Escalante. Cheri Parish says the climate in Escalante is much like that of Farmington where the terrain is rather flat. "I've always wanted to live near the mountains," she said, "and we're both looking forward to exploring our new surroundings." |
