Show Resident Deer Permits Go On Sale Monday At 8 a.m. Resident deer permits for the 1997 mule deer season will go on sale over the counter beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Apr. 21. Locally, deer hunters will be able to purchase their permits at Antimony Merc in Antimony, from Larry and Judy Davis in Boulder, at Rubys Inn at Bryce, from the Lions Club at the Old Home Ec Room in Escalante, and in Panguitch at Coopers Service and H&R Building Supply. Permits Per-mits may also be purchased at many other southern Utah businesses busi-nesses and at the Southern Region Re-gion Office at 622 North Main in Cedar City. The cost of the resident deer .permit is $25. Permits will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis until the allowable regional quotas are reached. The regional quota for resident permits for the Southern Region is 17,500. Regional DWR officials say that anyone interested in hunting deer in the Southern Region should plan on getting in line early to assure there will still be permits available. The 8 a.m. starting time is a change from years past and was established to promote fairness in the Southern Region. The DWR's Southern Region Information Manager Lynn Chamberlain said, "Southern "South-ern Region deer permits sell quickly and the quota limit has been reached before the end of the first day of sales in the past. Last year the permit quota for the Southern Region was reached by about 1 1 a.m.. Hopefully, the later start time will give more people an opportunity to get a permit." In order to purchase a permit personally or for someone else, the purchaser must produce a 1997 Wildlife Habitat Authorization Author-ization or a 1997 licensepermit (fishing, combination, small game, etc.) with the Habitat Auth-orization number on it. Permit purchasers who have not obtained Habitat Authorizations Authoriza-tions may purchase them at the time they purchase their deer permit, but DWR advises that, in the interest of time, they purchase them before Monday morning's official sale of permits begins. (See Deer Permits Go On Sale Monday On Page 3-A) Deer Permits Go On Sale Monday From Front Page Successful applicants who Habitat Authorizations through - the limited entry drawing should bring their limited entry permit with them because it will have on ' it the necessary Habitat Author-I Author-I tzation number they were issued. ' Hunters born after Dec 31, 1965 will also need to provide proof of completion of hunter 1 education. That proof is limited ' to the actual Utah Hunter Safety ' Card ("blue card") or a 1996 or 1997 Utah hunting license with the Hunter Safety number on it. A current resident of Utah who obtained hunter education certification certifi-cation in another state must transfer trans-fer the cardnumber from the other state to a Utah hunter safety cardnumber before purchasing a resident permit. The transfer must take place at one of the DWR's regional offices. The telephone number at that office is 801-586-, 2455. |
