Show Escalante News By Marlene Haws 826-4859 The basketball season is over for our Escalante High School Moquis. And, even though they didn't go to state, we are still mighty proud of them. They played some good basketball. Nothing to be ashamed of and their good sportsmanship says a lot for them. Many fans followed the boys to Cedar City for the tournament and that's always an exciting time for everyone, so it wasn't a total loss. Bernice Losee, Spanish Fork, came for the weekend to visit with her daughter and son-in-law Sandi and Ron Hitchcock. She also attended the tournament with them. Karen Peterson just returned from a visit with her parents, Kenneth and Karen Jenkins, Og-den. Og-den. She also helped a friend entertain in an LDS Relief Society Soci-ety program while she was there. Her twin girls enjoyed going to "Surf and Swim" and doing some things country kids don't often get to do. She said "They had a ball, but I was worn out!" Jerry and Sheree Roundy traveled trav-eled to Idaho to carry out a speaking speak-ing assignment at Ricks College. Jerry used to teach there and was called back to speak as a returned mission president. Not many people showed up only 7500! They were also entertained at a luncheon during the day. The Roundy's stayed with Jerry's sister and brother-in-law, Wavie and Ralph Siple in Idaho Falls and on their way home visited Jerry's brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Mila Roundy; and Mcndon and Jerry's daughter, Alana Lange in Logan. In Salt Lake City, they helped to celebrate the birthday of Sheree's son, Evan Spencer. Dudley and Hazel Spencer are home from a ten day Caribbean cruise. Said they had a wonderful trip, but Hazel says if Dudley goes again he will have to take another woman! (I've got first dibs!) They drove from here to Las Vegas and flew to Ft. Lauderdale, Lau-derdale, Flor. where they joined the tour group. She says it's harder to get to the ship than to take the cruise! However, they came home with a nice suntan and were glad they went! Neal and Alberta Liston celebrated cele-brated their 67th wedding anni-; versary on March 11. Stams and Fon Mecham celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary March 12. And like the proverbial battery, bat-tery, they just keep going and going! Congratulations, folks! Most couples are not privileged to be together that long. LaRue Spencer and Danny and Lois Spencer went to Cedar City last Tuesday for the funeral services of LaRue's sister, Max-ine Max-ine Stephens Adams. Maxine passed away following open heart surgery. Our condolences to LaRue and her family. The Lukers, Monte and Sylvia, are home after spending a few weeks in Salt Lake City. Monte is convalescing very well since having radical surgery. While in the city, they were able to attend an LDS temple with their daughter and son-in-law, for the very first time. Then they attended meetings in preparation for the special Olympics for Garfield Gar-field County and Sylvia went back to school to renew her realtors real-tors license. So, I guess, they are home for a rest! Once again, the Boulder Elementary Ele-mentary School students presented pre-sented their school production at the Escalante LDS Stake Center. See Escalante News On Page 5-A Escalante News (From Page 2-A) This lime it was "America 1910 to 1940". Such great little performers per-formers and they act like they enjoy doing it so much! They danced the Lambeth Walk, the Charleston and the Swing. They sang 18 of the old songs and brought it all together with great stories. A special thanks to, not only the students but to Bob and Naomi Brems, Tina Karlsson, Sioux Cochran, Ada Cox, Billy Cox, Susan Fullmer, Christy Greer, Julee Lyman, Helen Lyman, Ly-man, Karla Roundy, Colleen Thompson and Barbara Van Quill. Congratulations to Blake and Betty Schow who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family get together at their home in Salt Lake City last Saturday. Shalayne Coleman suffered a broken arm when she fell while the cheerleaders were making a pyramid at the basketball tournament tourna-ment in Cedar City. Shalayne is a daughter of Dianne and Curt Richins and the late Lance Coleman. Christopher Haycock received his LDS mission call. He will be going to Canada. Christopher is a son of Charlene and Jimmy Woolsey and a grandson of Gordon Gor-don and Almeda Haycock. Eva Dean Liston has two grandsons who will be leaving to go on LDS missions within a month of each other. Jeron Poul-son, Poul-son, son of Utahna and Eivon Poulson will be going to Canada. Jeron is also a grandson of Neta Poulson, Boulder. Shaun Blak-ley, Blak-ley, son of Steve and Beth Blak-ley, Blak-ley, will be going to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Frank Alvey had meetings in Cedar City on Wednesday. His mother, Betty Alvey accompanied accompa-nied him. Then they went on to St. George where Johnny Alvey came, from California, to meet them for an overnight visit. Blaine and Nelda Willis are home from a two week visit with Wayne and Maureen Dean in California. Blaine said his mother really enjoyed the airplane air-plane flight from Salt Lake to California and back. Lots of high water coming down now that the snow pack is beginning to melt. It looked like a hundred streams flowing on East Fork last Wednesday. If Edson Alvey had been there he would have told about the old fellow who said "I've never seen a spring like this." And the other one who answered, "Oh, I've seen thousands!" |
