Show By Mamie Talbot 676-8084 The frost caught up with us for two nights but at least we got to see and smell the lilacs this year. Bill and Helen Slack are back from their 10 day trip to Texas. Their trip to enjoy the wedding of a grandson was saddened by the death of Helen's brother, who died while they were there. Our love goes to you, Helen. A great many folks were here for the Memorial Day weekend, which was a wet one. We saw Irene McEwen and son Clem. Opal Miller is home from Dixie. Art Cooper, son of the late Jeddy Coopers, was here from Texas. He says he has only one year to go until he can come home to stay. Alta Orton had as visitors Argie and Marian Mcintosh of St. George and Harvey Bird of Tucson. Alta then went to Circleville to decorate graves and visit with family and friends. The Jay Proctors had son Arlin and family here from Centerville. Dudley's cousins, Jr. and Flora Worthen Seely were here. Flora is the daughter of the late Floyd and Ida Worthen. Ken and Dorothy Proctor Donleavy and daughter came from St. George. She is Bill and Elsie Proctor's daughter. They have moved to St. George from Salt Lake. Here from Alpine were Jeff and Carolyn Dodds Owens and family with the Maloy Doddses. Steven Frandsen and family were also here from Alpine. Luke Yardley, son of John and Pam Yardley, has been called to serve an LDS mission in Lithuania. There was a small circus over in Hatches field during the wet weekend. The kids in town knew about it even if the grown-ups didn't. It was practically impossible to get a room in southern Utah during the holiday. Some folks from Mesa who dropped in said that they finally got one room in Panguitch. They enjoy reading the Garfield County News. Don and Carol Cooper Bunker enjoyed having her sister Dorothy Chidester and her granddaughter Stephanie Seybolt as visitors on the weekend. Carol and Dorothy spent a day in Cedar City where they attended the wedding reception of Gordon and Rae Dawn Sutherland's daughter. They became very close friends of the Chidesters when they lived in Panguitch. Carol reports that it was great going over old times with other Panguitch people who were there, and because of their gift of gab they met a lot of new people. One couple asked Don if he was Kenny Rogers. A mission farewell for John Englestead was held in Third Ward Sacrament meeting. Talks were given by Chad and Melissa Englestead Veater, Jarom, Andrew, Chase, Bracken, mother Virginia and dad Dean Englestead. Jeff Cooper, Brandon Hathcock, and Sally Cooper sang "Faith in Every Footstep" and "In the Hollow of His Hand." Remarks were by John and Bishop Del Hulet. Grandfathers Sterling Jackson and Ray Englestead gave prayers. The Linford girls present were grandmother Lucille and aunts Linda and Connie, daughters of the late Denny and Mildred Linford. Many family members and friends attended. Elder John is called to the Columbia South Carolina mission. Bob and Grace Benfield are home from Arizona. Gai Wilcock, Kathy Henrie Mitchell and family, and Phil and Roene Dickinson and many more folks, are home for the summer or to visit. Denny and Jean Orton went to Las Vegas to bring Marjorie Connell home. She owns the former Jed Cooper home. Caryl Englestead was called as Bear Den Leader and Deanna Moore as assistant Nursery leader in the Third Ward. The Greg Paynes have moved into their new big garage until they get their house built. |
