Show Let's Resolve The Issues Garkane's press release last week to the Garfield County News gave us the results of the primary elections for District 6. I am gratified gra-tified to have received enough of your support to move on to the final election. Thank you for your vote; I sincerely appreciate it. Another Garkane press release on the same date causes me great concern - and should cause concern to you also. In February, the three northern district directors, by voting no, defeated a reapportionment plan that would have established one more district in the south. Now, the press release states that the board will again review reapportionment reappor-tionment during the next few months. Should we expect a different differ-ent outcome? The reapportionment issue was initiated by the Committee Com-mittee to Move Garkane to Hatch over a year ago at the February 1998 board meeting. We need to move on a decision now. Of even greater concern to me is Garkane's press release statement that says reapportionment "will be brought to a vote of the membership mem-bership as changes to Garkane's Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws." Let me quote from the Articles of Incorporation: "Until otherwise provided by the bylaws, these districts shall be seven in number. The board of directors shall from time to time divide and apportion the area of director districts to the end that each of said districts shall contain as nearly as possible like area have not been equally represented for yreas. This issue can be easily resolved now by taking a member vote that would require only a simple majority (not a two-thirds majority) approval to amend the bylaws. That action should be quickly initiated by the board. I appeal to the membership of District 6 to support my candidacy for the board so that I can be more effective in addressing issues like these. They need to be quickly resolved so that we can move on to future business issues facing Garkane Gar-kane and the need' for our cooperative to become more focused on its service area. I can make a difference and I want to serve you. I would like to hear from you. Call me at 435-735-41 10 or fax me at 435-735-4111. Hugh L. Wilson Hatch |
