Show Pangciilch ifcws By Mamie Talbot 676-8084 A very few ducks are still seen on the river, but the beautiful weather can end quickly now so their flight south will be continued soon. We hear that Clarence Giles, husband of native Edith Heywood, died recently. Clarence worked here for several years. The Kay Hey-woods, Hey-woods, daughter Annette and son, Bruce went to Mesa for the funeral. Bruce was here to' fix up his empty house, so now the Heywoods have two houses for rent. There are lots of houses in town for rent and sale. Art Talbot and sons of Cedar City have been here with mom, Norma Talbot for the deer hunt. The son of Panguitch native Silas Si-las Crosby has been here for the deer hunt with Art Crosby and sons, Bill, Robert and Steven. They camped and hunted in Little Valley and had three deer the last we heard. The late LeGrand and Artoise Sevy Dykeman's family has been here for the hunt. The Allen Millers Mill-ers had some family here also. The kindergartners went to the Care Center dressed in their Halloween Hal-loween costumes to parade for the residents there. The whole elementary elemen-tary school held their regular costume cos-tume parade around the block. We should remember to attend this fun parade every year. I hear it's better than the 24th of July parade. Rhoana Workman came home after two months with her son, Max Johnson, who died of cancer recently. Our love and sympathy go to Rhoana. She has been ill at home and daughter, Mickey, took her to Salt Lake City for medical treatment. Merle Stowell went north to see her 90-year-old sister, Aleta Furlong, Fur-long, who is not well. Panguitch young men approved to be elders at LDS Stake Conference Confer-ence were Jason Porter, son of Russell Rus-sell and Natalie Miller, Casey McCullough, son of Bob and Jill McCullough, David Earl Henrie, son of Allen and Jeannie Henrie, and David Veater, son of Rob and Lori Veater. Charles "Chuck" Hepworth was approved to be ordained or-dained a high priest. Art Cooper has returned to Texas after spending the summer in Panguitch. He plans to sell his home there and come back next summer to demolish the old stone Marshall home he bought near the elementary school and build a new home there. We were glad to read the article by Norm McKee last week to learn where the southern Utah deer are. We were afraid they were becoming extinct. Thanks Norm. Mick Oetting was seen clinging like a fly to a wall as he shingled the steep towering roof of their lovely old pioneer house. That takes courage. Wayne Sawyer, son of the Lyle Sawyers, and Michelle Norr, daughter daugh-ter of Nancy Cameron Walsh, were married recently. Dora Ann Henrie was life flighted to a Salt Lake City hospital hospi-tal for medical treatment. !'.. The Kenneth Millers took son Mayo to the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Nov. 3. Mary Perkins called to report that her nephew, Harry Judd, has been called as bishop of his LDS ward in West Valley City. He is the son of the late Don Judd. He makes it here often on business and visits with Aunt Mary while here. Bill and Helen Slack went to visit great-grandchildren in California Califor-nia for several days and are back home now. Bob and Juanita Smith went to the Salt Lake City area for a family funeral and the blessing of a great-grandbaby. great-grandbaby. Blanche Pendleton went to Og-den Og-den to visit son Norwood's family. Norwood's daughter, Debbie, was promoted to sergeant in the city police department and was presented with a plaque for service. The department de-partment had a dinner to honor her. While in Salt Lake City, Blanche and daughter, Joann Losser attended sessions in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mildred's Worthen's family have been removing useful parts of their old trailer house and preparing to have it burned by the city fire department. It will be replaced by a new Boise Cascade home. Verna Owens and some other family members went to Salt Lake City for her medical treatment. In the Panguitch LDS 2nd Ward, Shelby Pollock, daughter of Leland and Michele Pollock, was baptized a member of the LDS church. Little Carson D. Brown, son of Robert and DeAnn Brown, was blessed and named in his LDS Ward by Ivor Riggs. Julie Jordan was called to be the humanitarian coordinator in the Panguitch LDS 2nd Ward Relief Society. A week-long book fair and sale was held at the elementary school this past week. Many parents, townsfolk and students are happy to be able to buy books as gifts for themselves and others. Both DUP camps held their November No-vember meetings. A new member of Cornelia Camp is Loa Sevy. The histories of the pioneers are enjoyable and members learn to appreciate the lives of their ances- ' tors and the things they accomplished accom-plished in settling the towns in the state. The history of Summit County was studied this past week. The lesson was given by June Owens and Barbara Talbot. The history of Annie Rachel Johnson Ruby was given by her granddaughter granddaugh-ter Pearl Walker. The history of Benjamin Freeman Bird was given by great-granddaughter, Pat Sagers. Mary Houston Simkins came from Circleville to have lunch with son Tom Simkins, visit friends and (See PANGUITCH on page 5-A) PANGUITCH From Page 4-A attend her Loyhova DUP meeting. She reported that she and five of her sisters had a great reunion at the home of Reva H. Orton in St. George recently. Nephew Dick Furlong brought Merle Stowell home from her visit in the Salt Lake City area. He stayed a short while and he and Merle went to see Hell's Backbone and surrounding country that he had never seen. Kendall and Marilyn Brinkerhoff left for their New Zealand LDS mission. Best wishes, friends. Elizabeth Foy and eight of her children and grandchildren had a great reunion in St. George last week. Our old Pioneer Courthouse is getting a new roof with workers anchored by ropes on the steep slopes, especially on the tower roof ' where the historic wooden fish . stands. Panguitch is the Indian word for big fish. Heath Gardner was here on business from Washington state and spent some time with happy grandmother, Hilda Gardner. The cement is all poured on the porch, driveway and walks of the Evan Boshell's new home. With the weather turning cooler, folks are hurrying their cement jobs so it won't freeze even under covering. Mamie Talbot heard from LDS Elder Justin Talbot's family that Elder Caleb Osborn had arrived in the same LDS Argentina mission that he is in. We also hear that Elder Preston Gilbert has flown to his mission in Argentina. Elder Talbot is anxious to meet these Elders from his dad, Steven's home town. Barbara Talbot has moved in with mom, Mamie Talbot. One home is enough to keep up, less lonely and gives us someone to talk to. In the Panguitch LDS 4th Ward, Landon Fullmer, son of Bruce and Dianne Fullmer, was ordained a priest. Little Jonnie Kay Holman was blessed by daddy, Bishop Kelly Holman. Norma Talbot, Merle and Pauline Prince and their sister Janice and her husband have gone to Branson, Mo. |
