Show Sixth District Court Actions PANGUTTCH Judge K.L. Mclff presided over Sixth District Court on Thursday, Feb. 19 in Panguitch. Paul Allen Sorenson, 38, who was charged with driving under the influence, a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $4625 fine, asked from California to enter a plea by telephone. A plea agreement was reached between Garfield County Attorney Wallace Lee and the defendant. Sorenson was also charged with open container, operating a motor vehicle without owners or operators security, operating a motor vehicle without proper registration, and See COURT on page 5-A Court Actions From Front Page failure to provide child restraints. Those charges were dropped under terms of the agreement. Sorenson pleaded guilty to the DUI. He was sentenced to 1 year in jail, which was suspended, $4625 in fines, reduced to $550, and 24 months probation. Desiree Nicole Adams, 21, appeared ap-peared for sentencing. Adams had pleaded guilty on Nov. 24, 1997 to possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), a 3rd degree felony. She had been referred to Adult Probation and Parole for a pre-sentence evaluation. evalua-tion. Adams asked for permission to use alcohol as a part of her plea agreement to which Judge Mclff agreed. He sentenced her to up to five years in prison, which he suspended, sus-pended, $5,000 in fines, which he suspended except for $1850; and probation for 24 months. He ordered or-dered her to use no drugs except those prescribed, to submit to search of property and testing by a peace officer, to 100 hours of community service, to complete an outpatient abuse program, to maintain main-tain full time employment, and not to frequent drug hangouts. Rochelle Anjanette Mills, 22, also appeared for sentencing. She, too, had entered a guilty plea on Nov. 24 to ppssession of cocaine, a 3rd degree felony and had been referred re-ferred to AP&P. While he waited, Judge Mclff ordered Mills to be tested for drugs. Two sepaparte tests were administered. adminis-tered. Results showed positive for methamphetamines and marijuana on one test and methamphetamines only on the second. Judge Mclff sentenced Mills to up to five years in prison, suspending suspend-ing the sentence except for 10 days in the county jail and 24 months probation. He imposed $1,000 in fines to be paid at $50 per month with 160 hours of community service serv-ice or $1850 in fines and 100 hours community service, leaving the choice of options to AP&P and Prosecutor Lee. Mclff agreed to allow Mills the use of alcohol, but also ordered her to undergo substance sub-stance abuse counseling through Valley Mental Health and to obtain her GED in the next six months. He mandated no drug use except prescription drugs, ordered her to submit to testing and searching of property or person, ordered her not to frequent drug hangouts or keep company with known drug users; and to maintain full-time employment employ-ment or be enrolled in school. Stacy Sharp, 25, of Panguitch made an initial appearance after an arrest on alleged possession of a controlled substance and suspicion of DUI. Her case was continued until ' April 16, pending the outcome out-come of DUI tests taken after she was arrested for alleged possession. Mclff ordered that she submit to testing for alcohol at the sheriffs office on alternate days until her Apr. 16 court date set for 9:30 p.m. |
