They were, right to left, David Clark, Becky Crawford, Nathan McLemore, Linda Carter, Amanda Gait, Ashley Beebe, and advisors Traci and Jim Welburn. Escalante High School Students Visit Washington D.C. Area ESCALANTE Six students from Escalante High School took a trip to Washington D.C. with the Close Up program, which is an organization that takes sludents on tours of the Washington D.C. area. The students who chose to go were required to have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a sophomore in high school and be in good academic standing with their school. They also each needed to earn around $1200, which they raised themselves them-selves and through sponsors. During the week, they attended seminars with state senators and representatives, policy makers, journalists, and members of the judicial and executive branches of government. They were also able to meet with experts in domestic and foreign policy and national defense, de-fense, see a theatre production and visit many national landmarks and monuments. Students who participated were Amanda Gait, Ashley Beebe, Becky Crawford, Nathan McLemore, Linda Carter, and David Clark. Advisor James Welburn also accompanied them. Those who made the trip possi- ble were Boulder Mountain Lodge, Quay and Carol Simons, Escalante City, Turnabout Ranch, Classic Motors, State Bank of Southern Utah, Utah Forest Products, and Zions Bank. |
