Commissioners Meet For A Full Day Of County Business PANGUITCH Garfield County Commissioners Louise Liston, Maloy Dodds and Clare Ramsay met Monday, Aug. 10 for a full day of county business. Topping the agenda was a visit from Miss Garfield County Pageant Chairman April LeFevre. LeFevre expressed concern regarding changes in the Utah State Fair Contest, that the county may not be allowed to participate at the state without belonging be-longing to the Miss Utah franchise. She asked the commission to continue with the franchise for the next two years and she committed to work with the Miss Garfield program for that length of time as well. The commission agreed and made a motion to continue with the franchise for the next two years. Members of the Panguitch Lake Estates Property Owners Group appeared before the commission with Ben Baldwin as their spokes- t person. Baldwin expressed concern regarding trailers, tents, etc. on small, wet areas without proper septic and water facilities or health and building department approval. RecorderBuilding Inspector Les Barker was on hand to address these issues for the commission. Barker stated that the subdivision at Panguitch Pan-guitch Lake was created in 1968, before state and federal regulations were in place. He further explained .that the county policy had been, if the property owner could obtain health department approval, the county would allow development. There was additional discussion about ordinances in place in other counties that limit camping on private ground without septic facilities. facili-ties. Commissioner Liston suggested sug-gested sending letters to property owners who are not complying with health department rules and realtors who are listing those prop- erties. Property owners asked commissioners commis-sioners to make a onsite visit to familiarize themselves with the problems facing the subdivision. Building Inspector Jim Johnson was to accompany the commission. Harold Staton, owner and chef at Harold's Place Restaurant at the junction of Hwy 12 and US89 went before the commission to update them on his progress to meet fire protection codes as he upgrades facilities on his property. Staton informed the commissioners that owners of adjacent Bryce Junction Inn had refused to enter into a mutual mu-tual agreement to share water resources re-sources for fire protection as the commission had stipulated in an earlier meeting. After discussion, the commission commis-sion granted and approved a variance (See COMMISSION on page 5-A) COMMISSION From Front Page for Staton regarding the amount of water storage needed for fire protection protec-tion for proposed cabins, the amount being 40,000 gallons. After a review of her application, applica-tion, a business license was issued to Jennifer Ann Saunders for jewelry jew-elry sales in the county. |
