Show Bonus Points Awarded To Rejected Hunters SALT LAKE CITY Hunters whose Utah big game drawing applications were rejected this year will receive their bonus points after all, according to Division of Wildlife Resources Director Bob Valentine. . Hunters earn bonus points when they apply for a big game hunt but are unsuccessful in the drawing. Usually, a hunter whose application is rejected doesn't earn any bonus points that year. "This is the first year we've gone to a private contractor to conduct the drawing and there, were some problems," Valentine said. "The contractor had little discretion in interpreting the requirements of the application process." Division offices have fielded many calls from frustrated hunters who filled out applications incorrectly. "After consulting with my staff, I've made the decision to reinstate the bonus points, as a gesture of good faith to those hunters whose applications were rejected for whatever reason," Valentine said. While many hunters made mistakes on their applications, those who mailed their's before May 21 received a rejection letter in enough time to re-submit by the May 28 deadline. "That's why it's important for hunters to get their applications in early," said Division Information Services Manager Linda Stoinski. "We're going to print two separate proclamations and application forms for the 1997 hunts, which should eliminate the confusion some hunters had this year," she said. |
