Shown: Council Members Mack PANGUITCH Mayor Jon Torgerson accepted an award, presented pre-sented by John S. Williams of the Five County Association of Governments, Gov-ernments, on behalf of Panguitch City and in recognition of the city's involvement in Governor Michael O. Leavitt's 21st Century Communities Commu-nities program. The plaque was awarded in light of Panguitch City's commitment to prepare for the growth and development of the 21st century. The 21st Century Communities program is an invitation and challenge, chal-lenge, from Governor Leavitt, to rural cities, towns, counties, Indian tribes and other communities. The Oetting, Denny Orton, Janet Oldham, Economic Development Director Merle Prince, Williams, Torgerson, Member Jolene Smith, City Manager Allen Henrie, and Member Craig TwiitchelL Panguitch City Receives Plaque for 21st Century Commitment to Growth challenge is to prepare rural Utah for unprecedented population and visitor growth, create new jobs and reduce unemployment, diversify local economies, and protect the quality of life. Also included in the challenge is a call for rural leaders to develop a game plan for community commu-nity prosperity and success in the 21st Century. A local team made up of community com-munity residents, through a series of public meetings, will identify the city's strengths and needs. With this assessment the community commu-nity will develop and implement plans and programs designed to address growth anticipated in the 21st Century. The Five County Association of Governments, acting as liaison between the Governor's Rural Partnership Part-nership Office and local communities, communi-ties, is involved with the program on a regional level. John S. Williams, Wil-liams, executive director of the Five County Association of Governments, Govern-ments, chairs a Regional Technical Assistance Team. The Team will act as a resource for the community and the local team in applying for the program, assessing community needs, developing work plans, and implementing policies for success. |
