Show Livestock Owners Reminded Of Regulations As Hunting General Deer Season Nears If you own livestock and plan on using them during the upcoming hunting season in Utah, there are some things you need to know. The Utah Department of Agriculture Agri-culture and Food (UDAF) is reminding re-minding livestock owners about regulations that are intended to protect pro-tect the animal from disease and theft, and keep owners out of legal trouble. Movement of horses or other livestock within the state does not require an inspection, however documentation proving ownership should accompany any movement. Movement of horses or livestock live-stock across state lines, or the purchase pur-chase or sale of livestock requires that each animal be inspected by a UDAF livestock brand inspector. All livestock headed to slaughter must be inspected prior to slaughter. Inspections can be scheduled by calling your local UDAF inspector a few days ahead of time. Your local inspector in the Garfield County area is Vern Robison. For more information on how to contact con-tact your inspector call the UDAF at (801) 538-7137. Travel: The law requires that you carry proof of ownership when traveling within the state. This may be satisfied by carrying a prior issued brand inspection certificate, an auction invoice, a special sales invoice, registration papers, or a lifetime travel permit issued by a UDAF inspector. Health Issues: It is permissible to travel anywhere within the state of Utah without a health inspection. inspec-tion. However, if you are bringing any animal into Utah from another state or country, a health certificate must accompany the shipment. This certificate would be issued by a veterinarian in the originating state. In the case of cattle, the health certificate must include an entry permit number issued by the UDAF Veterinary office. Horses must have a negative coggins test accompanying the health certificate. |
