Hood ornaments and trunk plate covers of newer model vehicles began be-gan randomly disappearing at a steady pace in Panguitch and Tropic since mid-October or earlier. The juveniles cited, both males and females, range in age from 12 to 15 years and all reside in Panguitch. Pan-guitch. Officers, in trying to understand the motive for the thefts and vandalism, have theorized that the stolen items were taken as part of a "status symbol" craze -"- the more hood ornaments taken, the greater the status. In all, 70 ornaments have been recovered by officers and recovery of additional items is anticipated. The confiscated items, valued between $55 to $300, total around $7,000. Officers are still conducting further fur-ther investigation and interviewing juveniles. They are hopeful of identifying additional owners of vandalized vehicles and ask that anyone not yet contacted who has been the victim of such a theft contact con-tact either Panguitch City or Garfield Gar-field County officers. Such contacts are important to link up confiscated evidence to specific vehicles and to be able to ascribe a specific dollar amount to each theft, officers said. |
