Excellence is a demanding taskmaster, taskmas-ter, since achievement at one level establishes new goals and standards of performance." This declaration issued forth at the recent Academic Awards Convocation at Southern Utah University as students awaited the awards presentation for outstanding out-standing achievement. There were many different categories cate-gories and the awards in the College of Business, Technology and Communication were of special interest in-terest for the Anthony Coombs family here in Boulder. Natalie Coombs was the winner over four other entrants of the Business Administration-Wall Street Journal Award. This award is given each year to the outstanding student in business administration. The recipient recip-ient receives a one-year subscription to the Wall Street Journal and their name is engraved on a plaque and placed on permanent display in the Department of Business. Her brother, Ward A. Coombs, received an award as runner-up in a field of four for the Business Award in Accounting. Ac-counting. Outstanding awards for two in one family. Our congrats and good wishes for continued success. suc-cess. There have been two volunteer fire department meetings headed by Fire Chief Ray Harshman. The first one was attended by eight people peo-ple and Chief Brent Spencer of Escalante, who was very helpful on how to organize and get the volunteer volun-teer program off the ground. The second meeting was better attended thanks to Sandra Barsch and Jeanne Harshman, calling everyone in Boulder about the importance of attending. at-tending. Twenty people attended with eight wishing to take the fire training for certification in Provo in August. Everyone wanted to help in some way to get our volunteer fire department shipshape. Several ladies who cannot do heavy or physical assistance, offered to prepare pre-pare food, help with fund raising and even clean the firehouse. Renon Peterson, Idona Haws, Veda Behunin, Judi Davis, Sandra Barsch and Gloria Baldwin who attended the meeting were among those offering of-fering that assistance. Robert Owen was selected as fire captain and Randy Catmull and Jack Pollock Pol-lock as engineers in charge of equipment. Bill Cox came over from Salt Gulch and has offered his expertise in working with pumps. Art Lyman will be assisting the men in the use of town hydrants and Larry Davis will assist in train-jngand train-jngand communications. |
