The event which culminate cul-minate the reign of Sherrie Mecham, Miss Garfield County 1991. The pageant will take place on August 13 during Garfield County Fair Days and will be held at the new Bryce Valley High School auditorium. Hard work is a large part of making ready for the big night. For the past few weeks, they have been meeting each Wednesday for special help and training. Sherrie Mecham has been on hand with special skills gleaned from her recent Miss Utah competition competi-tion experience, helping the girls to gain the most from their pageant competition. Judges will focus on two questions ques-tions from each girl's application and will have a general question on politics or current affairs. They will place emphasis on good grammar, articulate speech and conversation con-versation skills. As a new help they will be videotaped during their practice sessions ses-sions so they can see themselves as others do. Pageant director April LeFevre says, "We hope to see them take home some 'life skills' that will stay with them. The pageant, both real and practice, will help them with future job interviews, and they will have an opportunity to learn poise and grace as a part of their training for the pageant. "We hope they will be able to look at themselves, define what they believe, and be able to express it articulately" she said. For some, it will be their first time on stage, and for all it will be a valuable experience, LeFevre said. During the past week, the girls were introduced to an interview session ses-sion designed to mimic the real thing. "Judges" Florence Hathcock, her sister Louise, Jennifer Bremner, and LeFevre quizzed the girls in a 10-minute interview similar to what they will experience on Aug. 13. They also leaned the art of applying ap-plying stage makeup from Lori Mecham and practiced modeling, setting their lighting, and each practiced prac-ticed her special talent for the pageant with the theme "Showtime on Broadway."
