Show Hurst Wins Six Prizes In Elks Lodge Rodeo HENRIEVILLE Tim Hurst, 15, Henrieville, brought home the spoils l e from six Elks Club-sponsored rodeos held at St. George Nov. 1, 8, 15, 17, 28, and 29. Along with a championship belt buckle for bull riding and a championship cham-pionship belt for saddle bronc riding, he came home with his right leg in a full leg cast. Hurst sustained J his broken leg in his tussle with his last bull. While the rodeo is not sponsored by any school district, it is open to high school students only, and each student must have permission from his or her school principal to participate. par-ticipate. The scores for each event are added to an aggregate score and a winner is chosen from this score. Hurst won his buckles in bulls by scoring one first bull, two seconds and one third. One the saddle broncs, he won three first saddle broncs and one second. Hurst, a sophomore at Bryce Valley High School and son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Littlefield, started riding in rodeos last summer at the Color Country Rodeo at Ruby's Inn at Bryce. He is a member of the Bryce Valley Rodeo Team and has ridden with Tawn Mangum and McClain Mecham. Other Garfield County youngsters who participated in the meet were Christine Gledhill and Matt Liston from Escalante and Candice Haws and Brian Roundy from Boulder, all students at Escalante High School. Hurst expects to be out of his cast in several weeks. He says that he now qualifies for state rodeo contests. |
