Show - Panguitch Patter - By Mamie Talbot Pauline Prince, Norma Talbot and their sister, Janice Bernson, of Salt Lake City, drove to Henderson, Nev. where they attended the wedding and reception of Norma's grandson, Scott Hoesch and Tina Brink. Scott is the son of Kenneth Hoesch of Las Vegas and Virginia S. Hoesch of Henderson. He is also the grandson of Otto and the late Wenda Sandin of Panguitch. The sisters then traveled to Escondido, Ca. for several days in the sunshine and sea air visiting with their brother. Art Sevy, and his: , wife, Fern. They did some whale and porpoise watching before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. John Houston went to Salt Lake City to bring John's mother, Dorothy Houston, home. She had surgery and is recovering well. John and Diane then went on to Las Vegas to hunt pheasants with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Goulding took daughter, Gretchen, to Salt Lake City to stay with her grandmother, Opal Norton, who is recovering from recent surgery. The Gouldings went to St . George to bring son, Rip, home from college for the weekend. They then traveled to Beaver to see daughter, Callen, perform with the Bobbetts at the Region basketball games. At the home of Fay Lynn a total of 16 women have quilted a lovely quilt for Beth Hatch. Beth made the quilt top before she was disabled with a stroke. Her friends finished it for her. Reroofing of the seminary building was interrupted by the recent snow storms, so when streams of water from melting snow began to pour into the classrooms, a hurried call brought the contractor from Richfield to do a patch job. The new roof will soon be completed. Mr. and Mrs. Gale Wilcock and son Dayne Wilcock made a trip to Salt Lake City for medical appointments. ap-pointments. While there they attended at-tended the mission report of Larry Hatch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hatch. Larry was a missionary in Venezuela. Dwayne Davis, grandson of the Wilcocks, was stranded here during the storms. Since his grandparents were away he stayed overnight with the Terry Clarks. There is much local interest in Dwayne's music and standing in the "You Can Be A Star" contest from the Grand Old Opry. Gai Wilcock reports that he is scheduled to go to Nashville, Tenn. in April to tape his music which will be aired shortly after. After a year's internship in North . Dakota at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, LeAnn Bridges is returning Jo southern Utah as purchasing agent for the huge Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. LeAnn started her service with the National Park Service at Bryce Canyon during her high school days. She worked there for several years before going to TRNP. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Don Bridges. Lucile Bridges and Pauline Prince went to Hatch to join a group of nine judges who worked all day on the entries for the "Reflections" contest for the Garfield-Kane County region. Many more original music entries were judged this year than usual. Melba Davis has had her sister Dorothy and Dorothy's husband Carole Adair visiting with her. Dr. Don Stowell has made several trips from Bloomington to make improvements on the home of his mother Merle Stowell before she returns from her LDS Oklahoma mission. A goodly group of senior citizens enjoyed the monthly Friday night dinner at the Senior Citizens Center. They listened attentively and asked questions as Dr. Ross Wooley of the University of Utah explained the cancer-screening program in the Five-County area. Dr. Lyn Ford, a medical education specialist accompanied Dr. Wooley. Both live in Sandy. Belva Georgi has a large display of her oil paintings on display at the Senior Citizens Center. They can be seen on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays when the building is open. Mr. and Mrs. McMiller are home from Washington City where they have built a home next door to daughter Gaylene. The home is nearly ready to move into. Mr. and Mrs. Clem McEwen visited in town with family and checked on their home. Earl Allen, who makes his home with daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Konroy Henrie, was honored by a dinner at their home. Earl was 91 years old on Sunday. All of his children were able to be present except son George. Cleo and Kon, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Allen of Panguitch, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Allen of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Whorton Allen of Logan, and Mr. and Mrs. James Lee of Panaca, Nev. Earl is the only living veteran of World War I in Panguitch and was a teacher in local schools for many years. Mr. and Mrs. J. Carvel Henrie and Mr. and Mrs. . R. Phil Dickenson spent last weekend visiting the Roger Paul Henries where John Paul Henrie was ordained a Teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood by his father and Chelsey Irene Henrie was given a name and a father's blessing. Kate Church is home from Mesa, Ariz. Son Val has been visiting with her. Kate and all her family were able to be in Salt Lake City at the banquet and posthumous induction into the Sports Hall of Fame of her husband, Rudolph Church. Son Val was also inducted, making them the only father-son high school coaches to take basketball teams who win the state championship. Duane Henrie is the only living member of Dolph's team but was unable to attend. Val's family were all present along with several of his team members and many former Panguitch people. The plaques presented will hang in the Sports Hall in the Salt Palace.: The Old Time Athletic Assoc. Utah Chapter sponsored the program. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Crosby were in Beaver for the basketball game and then went to Milford to visit with the Phillip Bailey family. Erna Riggs is home from a lengthy stay up north. Moving into their new homes are the Steven Marshall family up by Dickenson Hill and the Jake Albrechts into their distinctive log home near the stake center. The Larry Coons are moving into the house vacated by the Marshalls. In the Panguitch Third LDS Ward Elizabeth (Bitzy) Hatch received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award. Trevor Royce Pollock was baptized and confirmed a member of the LDS Church by his father, Royce. Twenty-two young people and six leaders went to the St. George Temple on Saturday to do proxy baptisms for the dead. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Heywood have been called as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple. |
