Show ! Mule Grows After Shakev Beginning Weighing 125 pounds at birth (three weeks ago, Hannibal the mule now tips the scales at approximately approxi-mately 185 pounds. I The cot's sire is an unnamed mammoth Jack and the dam is a Belgian mare. The property of John Owen, the young equine with a head only a mother could love is now called Hannibal the Mooch. Owen said that he will be the 91 dubiously proud owner of four such creatures over the summer. He does not particularly care for mules but admits that Hannibal does possess i some temporarily pleasing quali-I quali-I ties, since all baby animals have a charm all their own. Hannibal, like all mules, is ster-i ster-i ile and will have no progeny. Mules, however, are reputed to have more "native smarts" than horses. The youngster is beginning to frolic, and will soon reach an age and size that could cause Owen to put him on the auction block. It should be remembered, though, that properly broken mules, and large ones especially ride like a limousine. So when Owen puts out a for sale sign, buyers will have to get there early. Hannibal the Mooch can be seen at 700 East Center on the south side of the highway. There is sometimes a bit of traffic problem there because he is a different-looking different-looking animal. |
