Show ! Couple Will Celebrate 55th Wedding Date ! "It's been a good long life," said j Rulon Berrett of Spry thinking back 6 over the 55 years that he and his wife Opal have been married. We've had i our ups and downs like most folks," i he said, "but we wouldn't change a J minute of it." He pulled down and old Indian picture with a quotation that said, "don't criticize being old, a lot of folks don't make it." Berrett said, "after five kids, 20 J grandchildren, 33 great grand- children and more on the way, a fella just kind of sits back and enjoys I his posterity." S Berrett was reared in Union while his wife was reared in nearby South J Cottonwood. Married in Far-i Far-i mington, Feb. 18, 1931, both of them said they enjoy the quiet life in Spry. At Christmas time in 1985 their oldest daughter Betty who lives in Salt Lake City had a 10 by 14 inch plaque made of florentined gold. On the plaque is engraved a tree. Near the base are two overlapping hearts. On one is Opal's name, her birthdate etched in black, and a birthstone embedded nearby. On the other heart is Rulon's name his birthdate and birthstone. On various other parts of the tree are the names of their posterity with diminishing sizes of birthstones as the age of the family get younger. Berrett, a farmer, hunter, wildcatter, wild-catter, heavy equipment operator and any number of other things that keep a man going says, "a warm ' ' Kyi 3 Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Berrett home, good food, and a good wife keeps a man happy. Good friends are nice too," he said. |
