Show w " V ' i i , i Randal and Gwyn Lyman Randal and Gwyn Lyman Mark 60th Anniversary ESCALANTE Randal and Gwyn Lyman of Escalante celebrated 60 years of marriage together at an open housereunion held this summer. The couple was married in Bicknell, Utah on Oct. 8, 1934. Gwyn was the former Gwyn Hickman of Teas dale and Randal was born in a log house in Escalante, Sept. 29, 1910. Both had graduated from Wasatch Academy. Randal's father, Vern Lyman, owned a sawmill in Escalante for many years which Randal later operated. His grandfather, Amasa Mason Lyman helped guide many emmigrants to Utah from Nauvoo, 111. and his great-grandfather Amasa Mason Lyman was a counselor for Joseph Smith. In 1947 the Lymans bought the telephone company from it's original owner, Leander Shurtz. As a telephone operator for 1 1 years, Gwyn was quite accustomed to hearing over the line "let me talk to Grandma" or "give me Aunt Maude." There were no telephone numbers for Escalante and Boulder and everyone had a series of long and short rings on heavily used party lines. The Lymans also ran the Padre Motel for many years, followed by son Blaine, now owned by son Richard. Those gathering for the large family event this summer included Richard and Mary Lyman, Bountiful and Escalante; Jim and Deanna Greer, Tremonton; Merril and Rosemary Brindley, Salem, Calif.; Milton and Joyce Woolsey, Delano, Calif.; Jim and Evelyn Corning, Tucson, Ariz, and Blaine and Candy Lyman, Seymour, Missouri. The Lymans have 33 grandchildren and 34 greatgrandchildren. |
