Frandsen is organizing Garfield County's first demolition demolit-ion derby, set for Aug. 21. at fairgrounds. Sign Up Time For County's First Annual Demolition Derby Set For August 21 Organizers are working on the First Annual Garfield County Demolition Derby to be held in conjunction with this year's Garfield County Fair. The event is being organized by former local resident Dan Frandsen, himself an avid racing fan and regular participant. The first-time event is set for Saturday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Garfield County Fairgrounds. Drivers will arrive early, at 5 p.m., to make final repairs and adjustments to their cars. Frandsen recently captured a first place trophy, at a Demolition Derby in Logan on June 26, for the longest jump of a car, 8 feet high and 25 feet long. Frandsen said that at least 10 drivers will be needed for each racing heat. The top three drivers in each heat will be eligible to compete in the final heat of the night after a 20-minute repair time out. The entry fee will be $25 per car, with entry forms available at 1 Panguitch Floral and Gift on Center Street in Panguitch. Drivers will copmpete for $600 in cash and prizes. Drivers must" hold a valid driver's license and need to register as early as possible to have time to prepare their vehicles for the big event. Each driver must locate a car and identify sponsors to help them financially, generally in exchange for advertising. All drivers must wear seat belts and helmets. Contest rules and regulations appear on all entry forms. Punctuating the evening's regular racing will be will be a little molocross for motorcycles and a car jumping contest. Frandsen said that if enough "compact" cars register, there will be a separate heat for them. Frandsen, 28, is the son of Dan and Florence Frandsen of Panguitch. He is currently living in Smithficld and has been running cars in demolition dcrbys for the past year and says he loves the sport.. He has competed in five races in Logan and in Preston, Idaho. where he captured four first-place first-place trophies. He has been sponsored by his employers E.A. Miller, Pony Express Pizza and Best Used Tire Company. |
