Show Major Improvements Underway On Center And Main Streets Work is underway by the Utah Department of Transportation on Main and Center Streets in Panguitch Pan-guitch for major improvements on U.S. 89 through the city, the first time in over 30 years. Contractor on the job is Interstate Rock, Hurt ricane. The approximately $2 million project will include a new storm drain system, improvements to water wa-ter lines, new sidewalks and curbs and gutters. All old pavement will be removed and the high crown removed re-moved where necessary before repaving begins. The city's contribution contri-bution to the sidewalks will be about $100,000. In commercial areas, ar-eas, sidewalks will be solid to the buildings, but in residential parts, a two-foot area for grass will be left, then four feet of sidewalk. The city will also contribute another $90,000 to the storm drains. The entire project is scheduled for com- plction in August. Panguitch Mayor Jake Albrecht said Tuesday that Utah Power & Light will replace about 80 percent of street lights at a cost of about $80,000. The city is doing all that it can to reduce inconvenience to residents and business owners during the construction period, Albrecht said. Albrecht said the city has recently re-cently completed work on the head-house head-house at the west end of Panguitch, installing automatic sensors in preparation for anticipated water shortages with all residents asked to help conserve water. Water meters are being installed at all businesses and residences which formerly did not have them or where meters were not in working order. A limit of 10,000 gallons will apply beginning begin-ning this spring. The overage charge will be 60 cents per thousand thou-sand gallons where applicable. New electrical work has also been done at the city park, said Albrecht Al-brecht with automatic one-hour timers installed for the tennis court lights and other maintenance work underway. 'Y.
