Show Relief Society Project Marks 150th Birthday ESCALANTE With the celebration cel-ebration of the 150th birthday of the Relief Society organization of the LDS Church, came a challenge to each separate ward Relief Society to do a service project that would complement the community. The Escalante Second Ward sisters decided de-cided to give the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP) group a helping help-ing hand by landscaping the area around the DUP building. Some imagination was required because there was no water available avail-able around this old tithing office building located behind Griffin's store on Center Street. Fences were painted, trees removed that were damaging the foundation, red flag stone, yucca plants, cedar pieces, and gravel were gathered by several members of the ward to go between the rocks. Donations and assistance were received from the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Lincoln Lyman Construction, Bryce Valley Builders and Reed Munson Construction. With a lot of dedication and hard . work by a number of people working work-ing together, the final result of the project is a great addition to the city of Escalante. |
