Show County Voters Turn Out In Tuesday's Primary Election Garfield County voters turned out for Tuesday's primary election with less interest than in most past elections but nevertheless got the job done. The election is over except ex-cept for the final canvass of votes and count of absentee ballots set for July 5. By Tuesday, the county had received 17 absentee ballots cast by Ticaboo voters and will accept any ballot postmarked by Tuesday. In local elections, absentee ballots are not likely to alter any results. In the Independent Partyrace for U.S.. Senate, Craig Oliver defeated Bill Rigley, 849-651. In the Republican contest for U. S. Representative, District 3, with 99 percent of the vote in, Dixie Thompson garnered 15,903 votes and Tom Drschill 15,747. In the District 73 Republican race for the Utah House, with 98 percent of the vote in, Tom Hatch defeated C. Kay Peterson, 2509 to 2144 and locally, 1065 to 341. For the Garfield County Commissioner Com-missioner B post, Clare Ramsay defeated de-feated Michael Jim Clarke, 716 to 670. Challenger Tim Tebbs garnered a respectable 548 votes to long time incumbent assessor Tom Simkins' winning 846 votes. In the sheriffs race, incumbent Than Cooper defeated challenger Kevin Moore, 1009 to 395. Voters in the BryceBryce CanyonBryce Valley area selected a new school board member, Patricia "Trish" Thompson (169) over incumbent in-cumbent Rod Syrett (92) and challenger chal-lenger Barton Palmer (94). The names of all winners will appear on the November ballot where most will face Democratic opponents, but in this largely Republican Re-publican county, their election is almost guaranteed. |
