Show gUP&L Pays $35,569 Tax Bill To I Garfield County - - Garfield County is the recipient of a check for $35,569.80 this year as Utah Power & Light Co. pays its . annual property tax bill. , The company is paying a total of I $30,612,078.35 in Utah property taxes this year, with checks going to 27 of ; the state's 29 counties. ; Daggett and Wayne counties are ; the only counties in which UP&L ; does not own taxable property. ; Emery County received almost ; half of the total amount of property taxes paid this year. A total of V $15,082,919.37 was paid to Emery County. About $1.2 million of that figure represents taxes on the company's coal properties. UP&L's five newest coal-fired power generating units also are located in Emery County. The second largest tax check $6,938,335.40 went to Salt Lake County. Utah County was third, with a payment of $1,396,922.74. UP&L's taxes, along with payments from other citizens, will help pay for municipal and county services. Additionally, about half of the property tax payment will go to the Uniform School Fund to help support education in the state. County officials are being notified that about 9 percent of UP&L's taxes are being paid under protest this year because the company disagrees with the state's total assessed value of UP&L property. If the company is successful in its appeal to the State Tax Commission, UP&L's total tax bill for 1986 would be lowered about $2.7 million. |
