Show Persistence Pays For News 'Pick' Winner Clark Wins Fourth Week By John Yardley Persistence paid off for long time contributor Steve Clark of Cannon-ville this week as he won the "News Picks" contest. Steve tied with a host of others with only one miss on the games and was clearly the winner with closest to the score on the tie breaker. Steve, a great sports enthusiast and avid BYU fan, was one of the fine centers to play basketball in this area back in the early 60's. He now has aspirations for his sons to follow in his footsteps. My guess is that they probably will. Congratulations to Steve Clark and thanks for your continued support. Others who tied with Steve this week and whose names go into the pool for the drawing for the $200 are Evan Excell (for the second time), Cliff Johnson the golfer from Henrieville, Glenn Olhausen, a regular contributor; K.W. Brinkerhoff, a last year's winner; Stacey Pollock who lives in Tropic and likes to participate; and Clint Barney, a sophomore star at Panguitch High. As a final note, Ron Riggs of Panguitch was the closest overall in picking the score of Beaver and Kanab. Ron chose Kanab 16 Beaver 9 and the final was Kanab 12 -Beaver 6. The low score was what threw most of the winners who tied to go into the tie breaker. We might mention that game was in double overtime! So, it appears that was an excellent choice for the tie breaker. |
