Show Houston State Dairy Princess At the annual convention of the Utah Dairy Association in Ogden, Lana Houston, representing Garfield County, was chosen Utah State Dairy Princess for 1984. The 18-year-old 1983 graduate of Panguitch High School was also selected by the 16 other contestants as Miss Congeniality.the first time in the history of the contest that the Dairy Princess was also given the honor of Miss Congeniality, The Southern Utah State College freshman is a daughter of Mr, and Mrs. F. Grant Houston of Panguitch. She won a $600 scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to southern California with Shellie Fuller, Beaver, the 1983 Utah Dairy Princess. Her attendants for the coming year are Teresa Small, Box Elder County; Shelley Barney, Sevier County; Stephanie Hills, Utah County; and Tricia Breitweiser of Weber County. Each of the young women will serve for one year, visiting elementary schools, promoting milk, cheese and other dairy products, visiting with city, state and county officials and, in general, being good will ambassadors for the dairy industry. Their first assignment will take place Saturday at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City when they sing the National Anthem and preside at the evening's Ice hockey game. Miss Houston was selected Garfield County Dairy Princess in August of 1983. She holds four Utah State championships in track events, taking first place in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles for two consecutive years. She was a Southwest Utah Sterling Scholar in business during her senior year at Panguitch High School where she also served as cheerleader for four years, two as head cheerleader. In her freshman year at SUSC, she serves as senator. She is majoring in business education and plans a career as a teacher. l.ana Houston |
