'World of Design9 Introduced To Garfield High School Girls Five girls and an instructor from Garfield County were introduced to the world of design when they attended a fashion institute of design and merchandising seminar held in the Salt l-ikc Hilton. The girls were told what scholarships and grants are available and given hints and offered personal help if they were interested in entering the Institute. Schools are located in Los Angeles, Sherman Oaks and San Francisco. Calif They were given the history of design and instructed in interior design. The college expects the girls to work and get on-the-job training while attending school and will locate jobs for them. They were told the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is comparable in tuition to other trade tech colleges Those attending the seminar were instructor Marjie Lee Spencer; Sally Shaw, Karen Schow and Brenda Woolsey from Kscalantc and Carolyn Orton and Kathy Tebbs from Panguitch. The head woman merchandiser from ZCMI, Joyce Gorder, told the girls about her job; how to learn the business, some of the problems involved and the good qualities of design business. She told about the different kinds of jobs related to the fashion and interior design field that are open to girls. Leading designer Bob Macki. held a fashion show in slides. He designs clothes for many television and movie stars like Marie Osmond, Barbara Striesand, Cher, Carol Burnett and others He helps students at the Institute. Designs for 1978 were discussed Colors will be natural earth. The 1978 year will be the most feminine year yet. The makeup is to be in soft colors. The layered look will still prevail and jewelry will be feminine Anyone wanting to enter the school must fill out applications and wait to be called.
