Show Travel Figures Show Drop at Bryce Canyon BRYCE CANYON -Thomas O Hobbs, superintendent, Bryce Canyon National Park, reported travel figures for the month of January totaled 3,794. This represents a decrease of 8 percent for the year-to-date compared to January, 1977. Interpretive activities for the month included an eight minute slide program, museum and exhibits at the Vistor Center, and a daily snowshoe hike. Rehabilitation of the Bryce Canyon Lodge kitchen has begun and sliould be completed by June. The interior is to be remodeled and outdated equipment replaced. The work is being done by the National Park Service and TWA Services, Inc. Twenty-nine Youth Conservation Corps projects have been scheduled for next summer enrollees. The projects consist of painting guardrails, placing redwood slats on trash containers, chaining down picnic tables, constructing a pole fence at Yovimpa Pass, building stone retainer walls, painting information signs along roadways, constructing a wood fence around a storage area, rehabiltating old building sites, trails, and road- ways with native grasses and shrubs, repairing trails with erosion trail bars, surveying visitor trail usage, and upgrading erosion check dams along water supply drainage. The eight week program will start June 19, 19? and continue through August 11, 1978 Eight Student Con servation Association projects have been scheduled for the sum mer program. The high priority projects will be clearing trees. constructing rock retaining walls, and installing trail erosion bars. Other projects will consist of removing old telephone wire, repairing damaged fencing, and removing an old water collection house. Winter hours for the Visitor Center are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Daily guided snowshoe hikes are offered at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements may be made at the visitor center before the hike. |
