Show Groundbreaking Rites Start Stake Center Three log pulling horses of the Harding Brothers logging firm were used in the groundbreaking of the new Panguitch Stake Center on March 5. The large beauties were driven by Frank Harding and the Panguitch Stake presidency and three ward bishops. The groundbreaking is a long sought dream. William Blackwell of the stake presidency said in the opening prayer. Bishop F. Carl Farnsworth of the Panguitch Second Ward said the wood hauling project would require a lot more sweat and hard work to raise the second half of the money needed to build the stake center, and three ward chapels. He said we need to all do our share which will bring the community closer without boundary lines. "Let's not worry about how much we have given, let's just start giving more. The Lord never asks us to do anything without providing a way to do it," Farnsworth said. Bishop Frank Henrie of the Panguitch Third Ward said the con tractor would have the building built no later than February. He felt we should have our funds raised by February so we will not hold the dedication up Bishop John Wallace Yardley said this was a day of sacrifice and that sacrifice is part of the Priesthood power. He said it is important to give without worrying where it is going to (Continued on Page 3) Stake Center . . . (Continued from Page I come from We must realize it is time for us to begin, and realize that it will be and must be a sacrifice and will not be easy to come up with the funds "If we put our hearts into this inspired project the lord will bless us," Yardley said Past president of Panguitch Stake, Raymond Whittaker attended the ceremonies He reminded the people what apostle Boyd K Packer promised the people of Panguitch Stake, that by sacrificing to build the stake center the windows of heaven would open up and we would be able to receive blessings He reminded the people that a building does not have the spirit of the Ixrd until it is dedicated so we need to get with it, get the money together so this building can be dedicated as soon as it is built. The contractor, the architect and the superintendent of the construction of the building all spoke to the group telling them how important they felt the lord's work is and how good they feel when they are building the Lord's house They stressed the importance of building with the lord's guidance and direction so it would be a building worthy of the Lord and his progress on earth It was just 50 years to the day March 5, 1928, that the ground breaking ceremony was held for the existing Panguitch First and Second Ward chapel, then known as the South Ward Just two weeks before that the grouid breaking ceremony for the Panguitch Third Ward ( then known as North Ward chapel) was performed The three ward choir under the direction of Barbara Orton and Jerry Lynch sang two numbers, "Oh, Ye Mountains High" and "Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel". They all sang "The Spirit of God". The choir was accompanied by Irene McEwen and Jerrie Fackrell. Following the ceremony which was held in the Panguitch First Second Ward chapel the congregation and officials met at the stakf center site, on 100 West and about 600 South for the official groundbreaking. |
