Show Panguitch Meets Match as Wayne Edges Bobcats in 60-57 Battle Wayne High basketball coach Larry Andersen is a firm believer in the "turnabout is fair play" philosophy. But outdueling unbeaten Panguitch on the Bobcats' home hard woods? Andersen didn't like the odds. But he never admitted it. It wasn't long ago that Panguitch invaded Wayne and took home a victory. So what about Wayne returning the favor? Some said It couldn't be done. Wayne proved it could Thursday night by nipping the Bobcats 60-57, as the Badgers grabbed a share of the Region Eight Division Two lead with the important road triumph. The turnabout came with Wayne enjoying a one-point lead with 18 seconds showing on the clock. Panguitch was forced to foul in an attempt to regain the basketball, but Wayne's Martin Clark put the game In the win column by swishing both charity tosses Just like the fast-paced shootout earlier at Wayne, this one was a battle of nerves. After the first quarter ended in a 16-16 deadlock, Badger Jan Ellett found the hot hand and helped the visitors gain a 33-30 edge at halftime. Neither club let up in the third period, as Wayne assumed a 46-42 advantage. The Badgers then doused a gallant Panguitch during the final eight minutes to hold on for the three-point decision and a portion of the league lead at 7-1. Ellett, a 5-8 Junior sharp shooter, paced Wayne with 18 points, while Jeff Hanks swished 10. David Black, a 6-3 tower of stability, led Panguitch with 17 points, while Kevin Frandsen chipped in 13 and Jeff Owens 11. In other Region Eight contests Thursday, Bryce Valley scooted past Valley, 104-74; Escalante outlasted Piute, 68-60; Milford downed Parowan, 78-67; Beaver zipped past Kanab, 69-41; and North Sevier waltzed past Enterprise, 72-64. Steve Lowe poured in 22 points, Roger Don Marshall 16 and Mitch Oakden 14 to pace the Beavers. Don Glover was Kanab's lone double-figure scorer with 18 points. North Sevier won its third straight improved to 5-5 and appears ready to make waves in the round robin, as Shannon Heaps bombed In 29 pointe and Travis Simpson 16 to pace the Wolves.
