Show 'Citizens' Corner TWs weeks Cititera Corner participant It Helta RM with the poem she wrote which was chosen as the winning poem of the Panguitch City Bicentennial Poetry ContesM97. -3 f CITIZENS CORNER W GOD It AS M.R88EI) AMERICA W God gave us this beautiful, spacious land, I And he made our skies so blue, That oppressing clouds could never darken enough, So the torch of liberty could not shine through. Lighting a message to all the world, "(live me your homeless, your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, I lift my lamp beside the golden door." Then America became a melting pot, For nationalities through-out the world; Here they found the end of their rainbow, Beneath Old Glory unfurled For two hundred years, America, Our allegiance has been to the call, One nation, under God, indivisible, With liberty and justice for all. To me, America is a shining symbol, Of a people who would not give Up their God given right for freedom, To fight for a better way to live. My heart swells within my breast, As the pathway of peace I trod; While freedom's fires are burning, Sending on high our gratitude to God. This awe inspiring flag of ours, Has more than beauty beneath it's folds; It is symbolic of our American creed, The past, the present or what the future holds. Each time you look at it's crimson and white, Or the stars in it's heaven's blue, Be grateful indeed for your heritage; God has blessed America for you. Let us create a new Spirit of '76, For our Bicentennial theme; A past to remember, a future to mold, Which was every patriot's dream I love our glorious country, I It is the haven of my heart; Jp A choice, land of lasting refuge, ft My home, of which I am a part. God has truly blessed America, fVirZ' He has kept her people free; May we ever honor our sacred trust, ftL!? pi" To preserve justice and liberty. E?5 ByllettaReid (CI |
