Show Bryce Records 6 Hike In Visits For August BRYCE CANYON Bryce Canyon National Park recorded 140,314 visitors in the month of August. Thb was an Increase of 6 percent over August, 1975 travel. Total Bryce Canyon travel for the year through August is 478,381, an Increase of 9 percent over the same period In 1975. In August, 7,058 campsites were occupied, presenting an Increase of 13 percent over August, 1975. Campground use for the year Is 16 percent greater than in 1975. Sunset campground will close as travel declines. North campground will close Nov, 1, At the visitor center, visitors may view an eight minute color slide program and museum displays about Bryce Canyon during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Ranger-conducted in- terpretive activities presently include special walks starting at the visitor center at 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Bristlecone walk at Rainbow Point; a 5:00 p.m. rim walk at Sunset Point, and an 8:30 p.m. Campfire program at north campground am-pitheater. The Bristlecone walks will end September 19. The other interpretive activities will continue until mid-October. The Bryce Lodge, camper store, showers, laundry, gas station, and horse rides will close October first. Fire danger at Bryce has been varying from moderate to extreme, and visitors are cautioned to exercise care with their use of fire. As the deer season approaches, Supt. Thomas O. Hobbs reminds us that Bryce Canyon National Park is closed to all types of hunting. |
