Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY The weather is evidently trying to be decent but the wind and other elements keep things stirred up. Walter Leibenguth is in California being prepared for surgery which is scheduled for Tuesday morning. Vergene and Carolyn Porter took son Sloan to the Panguitch hospital where he had surgery and came through it fine. Emmett Porter is home from Salt Lake City looking well and says he feels good. Bonnie Chiono is still hospitalized in Panguitch, Alfred went over Sunday and says she is looking much better. Richard and Mary Lynn Sidwell have a new baby boy. Blair Frazier and his brother Blake came from Ogden and stayed overnight at the Hode Alvey home, then took Geneal and the baby back. Daniel and Orilla Cowles visited Glen and Coleen Imlay in Delta. Dianne and Darrell Alvey and family went to St. George on horse business. Shona Wc-olsey and family of Delta visited at the Vernon Griffins. The Otto Roundys had Gene and Renon Reed and girls here from Monroe for the weekend. Marvin and Louise Mounteer and family went to Orderville to visit Paul and family. Harvey and Evadean Liston came from Wayne County for the weekend; my kids came from Mapleton: Jim and Lola and son, LaVee and Steve WU-combe and six kids. Jim brought a pickup load of cinder-block and they, assisted by Harvey Liston and Dad Alvey, fixed up my basement wall that slid in as a result of so much moisture. Mother Alvey made biscuits and cake to help feed the crew. Is it a big relief to know the living room is not going to sink into the basement. Kim and Rex Lawrence went to Richfield to visit her fath-er, Byron Carrigun, Janeen Alvey and Mabel Griffin also had business there. Charley and Nancy Everett, Julie and Dick Droubay and Denise Alvey went to St. George for the races. The horse they took got in the finals. Reeves and Laura Baker had a visit from son Wilmer who would like to find employment close to home, as all our young people would. Wilmer had visited his sister Laurel at the Utah Valley hospital. Laurel had surgery about six weeks ago and had complications due to scar tissue so they operated again and kept her there to prevent the same thing happening again. The Gary Fontalns went to Kanab then had a visit from Cyndi's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bailey of Berkley, California. The Fontalns showed them around our scenic attractions. Saturday the 14th, was work day at the Church farm. Lincoln Lyman had business in St George and Las "Vegas. Nethella and Earl Woolsey had a visit from Majorie and Howard Shurtz from Sacramento, California, Earl accompanied them to Green River to visit other family members. Neth ella's sister Onetta K. Shurtz, came from Salt Lake City to visit. Sharon Dale and Shirlee Marsh had business in Salt Lake City so the little girls stayed with grandparents Dale and Thelma. Baby showers for Carol Barney and Lucile Cowles were held at, the home of Carolyn Barney. Hal and Geneal Shurtz and family went to Richfield to the dentist-Usher and Eva Spencer went to St. George Billle and. Minnie Davis went to Salt Lake and brought grandson Robert Smith home. Holbert and Bonnie followed with their belongings. Lola Zenz came from Page for the weekend. It was High Council day Sunday and speakers in the North Ward were Malen Mecham, Earl Jolley and Vernon Spencer. The South listened to Elmo Bushnell and Clele Fletcher. Euzell Cottam had daughter Dianna Cloward and family here from Las Vegas. Mr. and Mrs. John Foster who bought the McKay Bailey home are moving in. DUP meeting was held Thursday with a good attendance and the group decided to make a quilt and raffle it off, so it was put on in the home of Twlla Mclnelly, Millie Mclr.slly donated the top. Jim Sjancer, former resident of Escalante has been named "Coach of the Year" and his school has been rated No. 1 basketball team in the Southwest (Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona). Jim's team won 28 consecutive game3 and in the 11 years he has been coaching his team has gone to State eight times. Jim is the son of the J. Clyde Spencers and his wife is Janet Griffin, daughter of the Clar-on Griffins. Open house will be held April 21s,t Saturday night, from 8 on in the High School Gymn. for Mr, and Mrs. Kay Gates. Everyone is invited. Friday the 13th was not unlucky for former resident Danny Woolsey, he phoned his mother Clella saying that was (continued Inside) ESCALANTE (continued from front Vogt) the day he received his diploma of graduation In operating heavy equipment, he has been accepted Into the union and ready for a job. Vernon Griffin and Arnold Alvey went to Clrcleville for grain. Babs Neal and Virginia Lucllyn had business in Panguitch. Whitey and Maralda Porter visited family members In Phoenix, they had grandklds Steven and Karen here awhile. Relatives of Duane Dutton visited him in Wyoming and said his hand is healing but Ij ' still numb but the doctor thinks it Is going to be ok. Ricky Haws is home from Las Vegas. Don and Sue Mosler went to Las Vegas and brought their kids home for a visit The Mo-siers moved Into the house vacated by the Bill Hathaways. Bob and Pat Sorensen moved to the Moqul Motel to run that. Marlene Stowe and son went to Duchesne to join Stanley who has employment there. La-Faye and Stewart Bailey had business in Ephriam. Donna Bailey is able to be out to church now. What the Spring weather is going to do is anybody's guess, there's snow, rain, wind, and even sun you never know how to dress. |
