Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY It was a Brown Christmas as predicted and the mud was a bit unpleasant but the temperatures were moderate, the sun shone so the day was quite a success, families got together to partake of the good things of life. Doth ward Sunday Schools put on the programs outlined for the day. Whltey and Maralda Porter went to Phoenix to spend Christmas with their kids, Wayne and lone Barney flew to Arizona to spend It with daughters Jill and Joan and families In Scotsdale. Ora Schow went to Salt Lake City for a painting party. Beverly Staker and daughter went to Cedar City to the dentist, others having business there were Ardis Christensen, Nancy and Charley Everett, Dale and Gail Barney, Judy Griffin, Karen and Karol Kelly, Leah Griffin, Ann Munson, Marlyn and DeLoy Christensen, Deloy has a new pickup. Reed and Wilmlrth Wooley and Nell Barker went to Salt Lake City to spend the holiday with family members, Lincoln Lyman had business there. Claron and Ruby Griffin went to Orem and brought their Spencer grandklds home, then Jim and Janet came for Christmas. Those we heard of having business in Richfield were Deon and Janeen Alvey, Lynn and Verda Liston, Veda Mitchell, Leo and Bernice Wilson, DeLynn and Julie Norman, Bill and Linda Overall. Yukon and Larry Norman, Ther-on and Dixie Mitchell. Starns and Fon Mecham have a new grandson born to Ron and Linda in Las Vegas, he is number three boy and they have two girls. McKay and La Faye Bailey spent a few days in Las Vegas, they have moved into a new home and sold , their old one. Delmar Cottam came from Las Vegas to spend the holiday with his mother, Euzell. Fern Henderson of Cannon-ville spent Christmas with Gol-da and Rodney Cottam, they also had son Boyd home on furlough from Fort Leonard-wood, Missouri, he and Lynn Button came together but they will be separated after their furlough, Lynn will go back to Missouri and Boyd to Fort Lewis, Washington. The DeLane Griffin family could hardly wait for Christmas day to pass as they left the day after to go to Salt Lake City and meet Qulnn who has completed his mission and returning home. Lola Zenz got up in the wee hours Christmas morning and came from Page to have breakfast at the Thur-man Spencer ranch, she had three days off so spent them with the Spencers and the Walter Danes. The Danes had son Lee and wife Carman from Las Vegas, they took their son Tim home to spend Christmas. Twila Mc-Inelly had Mike and Grena Se- arlc, Judy and Lynn Griffin home from Salt Lake City. La Rue Spencer had Kenneth and Ret a and son from Cedar City, Linda and Junior Everett of Nevada. The annual Christmas dance was held Monday night with Bill Griffin and his family furnishing the music. Winners in the lighting contest were announced the Lane Liston home won 1st place, the Vernon Stowe 2nd and the Forest Al-veys 3rd, the Elementary school and Cal Porter got honorable mention. Al and Led a Mao Foster and family of Tropic spent Christmas day at the Bll-lie Davis home, Michelle stayed over to attend the dance. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the North ward released Phil Bales from the bishopric and sustained Jay Porter as second' counselor to Billie Davis, their program was put on by the Seminary under the direction of Gary Fon tain. The South ward called n the college students; Peggy Mounteer of BYU, Marlyn Shurtz, Evelyn and Blaine Lyman, Helen Alvey and Mark Griffin from SU SC, then Lynn Griffin and Jim Spencer talked briefly. Harvey and Evadcan Liston came several days early and opened up the home for their family for Christmas; Beth came home, Utahna and El Vonn Poulson from Salt Lake City, Jim and Lola Alvey from Maplcton, of course the latter visited me and made the holidays more bearable. Our Coombs kids came from Boulder for dinner. Osmer Neilson and wife were here combining business with pleasure. Kim Lawrence has her father Guy Carrigun here. Gary Fontain took the 9th and 10th grades to Salt Lake and Provo to visit the temple grounds then on to Guanlson to watch a ball game and on home. Keith Carter and sons were here checking on their property. Lane Liston and Loyd Alvey were home from their job in Glen City. The Verge Spencers had son Marion and Peggy and daughter, Doris and a friend. Usher and Eva Spencer went to Provo for the holiday. All of the Cottams went to Provo for the wedding of Myron and Sann-ette. They exchanged vows on Dec. 22 at the Provo temple, open house for them will be held Saturday at the South ward church from 7 to 9 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. Vernon and Margene Stowe had all of their family home for Christmas, Ronnie and family from Oregon, Layne, Stanley and family from Cedar City, Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman spent the holiday In Duchesne with Irene and Lou-Is Brown. Blake and Gurena Robinson had all of their family home except Blake D., they went to Hawaii. Bill and Dawn Griffin had son Randy. Boyd and Tmdv and new son, Nicki and Evan Excell and family. Marlcne and Klynn Haws had Robert from Farmlngton, New Mexico and Ricky from Las Vegas. The Stanley Haycocks had Doug and Barbara and family, Don-ctta and Ed Dunham. Calvin and Laretta Shurtz, Ivan and Klea, Don and wife went to visit her folks, Dorthy and Neyell Cowles split their time there and with Daniel and Orilla. The Lorenzo Griffins had Lois Reeves and family from Las Vegas. Tho Don-aid Griffins had Randy and La-na and family. Nellie Bailey had Connie and Alfred Jepscn. Geraldine and Shana. Eldon and Amber Griffin and girls came from Kanab for Christmas at the LaVern Griffin home. Lowell and Betty Finch have moved back here. Re-non and Gene Reed and girls, Peg and Vernon Dean Roundy and family spent Christmas here at the Ott Roundys. Bill and Sharon Francisco and boys came here from Cedar Cltv, so did Warren and Kathleen Woo-isey and boys. Sharon Dale and Shtrlce Marsh went to Cedar City. The Hal Shurtzs had son Kay Lvnn and Valeree and Stanley Huntington. Eph and Dicey Coombs had PhlllU and Ed Ge-rratt and famllv from Salt La-k City. The Vernon Griffins had sons Richard and Festos home. Carolyn and Versean Porter had Vergeanla and husband here. The Soence Haycocks had sons David and Bryce home. Max and Shlrlce live In Kearru now. , Mary and La Vera Griffin met Clem in Richfield with a dead pig Alton, Sandra and Flora Lelbenguth had business thtre. Alfred Chiono took Bonnie to Panguitch for a checkup, she is doing very well. Golda and Rodney Cottam had business in Panguitch. Jay and Linda Stokes of Tooele were at the Smith Alvey home but no one can stay very long. Arils and Melba Brooks went to Texas on vacation. Gall and Donna Bailey went south for the cold weather. Old traditional Holidays are changed by the powers that be to make It more convenient for working folks when they're free; I'd like to suggest another change without appearing contrary; changing Christmas to Leap Year, the 29th of February. |
