Show CONTRACT LET FOR COAL FIRE-CONTROL PROJECT Senator Frank E. Moss announced the awarding of a $63,250 contract from the Bureau of Mines to P. R. Jensen & Sons. Inc. of Junction, Utah, to control an underground fire now burning In a coal deposit near the Glen Canyon National Recreation area The fire is consuming valuable coal and polluting the air witli noxious fumes Plans call for drilling and blasting the earth and rock a-bove the fire then compacting It to form an airtight seal that will smother the blaze The site is on public lands on the Kaiparowits Plateau In Kane County. Work will be supervised hv Bureau of Mines eneineersand is expected to be completed by the end of the year |
