Show Escalante 'Most Improved', To Keep Up Beautification Work Escslsnte launched its 1968 landscape Improvement program recently at a general committee meeting where plans were made for continuing tin- work of previous years and starting some new pro Jecta. Escalante won the 1967 a-ward given by the State Municipal League and the Utah State University Extension Service as the Most Improved town In the state of under 800 population It also won Honor nble Mention award In the National Clean Up-Fix Up Bureau contest for cities of under 25.000 population Escalante has 725 people. Mrs Nethella Wooley was re-elected chairman of the Landscape Improvement committee. The other members represent each of the service clubs, church groups, schools, and other organizations of the community. The Chamber of Commerce volunteered to supervise the southeast section of town, the Lions Club the northeast, the Women's Enthusiasts Club the northwest, and the Riding Club the southwest part of town. Effort will be directed toward removal of useless, unsightly buildings, fences, etc., and repair and painting of other buildings and fences. A town clean up day was set for March 23 New projects planned Include Improvement of the cemetery , landscaping of the grounds of the medical clinic built last year. Installing a sprinkling svstem and planting grass on high school grounds from which an old school house was removed last year, completion of grandstand at the race track and rodeo grounds, clearing stumps and leveling town irrigation ditches. Some of these projects are under way now. |
