Mont Griffin is able to get out to church, the doctor said he could use his legs but not his arms, so he has it made, Ethyl will have to hoe the weeds. They had Harmon and Cora Shakespeare over from Tropic to fish, visit, and Cora got a hairdo. Millie Mclnelly is home from the Page hospital and told me Nancy Hathaway was her room mate recovering from the same type of surgery, she is home also. Wallace Roundy has Ralph and Wavie Siple and family here from Idaho, Ralph makes himself useful as a mechanic. Jane Roundy has Maida and Walt Segmiller of Ogden home for a visit. Arnold and Zella Alvey have daughters Gail and Velma and families here from Salt Lake. Renon Reed and girls of Monroe were here at the Ott Roundys, Gene came for them Sunday. The Ed Mitchells had Jerry and Gayla and daughter Jennie Lynn here from California. The Mitchell family reunion was held at Pangultch Lake with all of William's family except Orthella and Verna and families. His two brothers Mel-vin and Ellis attended. Vernon and Rula Spencer and daughters and Julie Droubay went to St. George, Andrew is still having breathing problems along with complications. Hal and Geneal Shurtz and family went to Spanish Fork to the dentist. The Stake MIA officers attended conference In Salt Lake City. Linda Mecham and children went to Parowan to see her folks. Geraldine Liston and kids, Dixie Mitchell and kids went to Richfield to the dentist and eye doctor. Trix Heaps and wife came from Salt Lake City to Salina where they picked Verna Gates up and went to Cedar City and brought their mother Sarah Heaps home. They fished and visited a week Joined by some friends and tried to get Sarah to go home with one of them, but she refused She is still sore Had stiff from her fall but says she can make it on her own. Donald and Darlene Griffin are here from Provo. Rol Porter had school business in Pan-guitch. Thev have Kenneth and Marie Griffin and Deloa and husband here. Mrs. Wilbur S. Smith and children, Shelly and Joey were visitors at the Don Lee home. Clyde Spencer was called to Price for an assessor's convention, Lilile went along and visited family members. The Lorenzo Griffins have daughter Lois and her twin girls here from Las Vegas. Colleen Burrows is attending school In Cedar City on one of those four year scholarships, she has Joni and Ken with her and they have a summer program they are enjoying, Joni in ballet and Ken swimming. There is so much to do here Ervin has no time to enjoy his solitude. The Spencers left Anna Lee in St. George to drive Andrew to Cedar City to a new doctor who is treating him, and they feel like he is being helped. Richard SidwelL Bill Overall and Mr. Smock went to Truth or Consequences and got located on Jobs then came home for their families. Earl and Nethella Wooiaey went to K earns for the testimonial of grandson Dale, son of Hal and Laska, who is going to the West German mission. Ne-thella had a letter from Governor Rampton saying that he and his Mrs. planned to fly her and go to Boulder for the dedication of the museum on the 10th. Diane Alvey took a horse to Salt Lake City, Kim Lawrence went along for company and the ride. Minnie and Billle Da via went to Cedar City, Sariah Alvey accompanied them, they took Robert Smith home but he came back with them. Billle came home with a new vehicle, a sort of Jeep thing he can drive with a top or topless, called a Blazer. Holbert Smith has been hospitalized with severe headaches but is better and gone north to finish his flying lessons. The Spencers, Vernon, Rula, Thurman and Marjie went to Ruby's Inn for a Canyonlands Soil Conservation meeting and steak supper. Jim Weston showed slides of his tour of Japan. The engineer, Dale Baldwin and wife were there for the first 'ime The North ward put on a supper which was well attended and lots of good food put away, they want to thank everyone who helped in any way. Alveys, Deon and thi daughters went to Richfield foi a Smith family reunion Sunda Luther and Deann Smith an i three youngsters of Kennewlck, Washington met them there and came hare for a visit. Wayne Baker brought William home and visited his uncle Reeves Baker. He Is In the Air Force and has been stationed In Italy and had his wife and two children with him. he is on furlough now before going to Alaska. Other visitors at the Baker home were Reed and Ruth Thompson of Salem and their daughter and baby from Idaho. Visitors at the Wanles Alvey home were Mr. and Mrs. John Citta of Phoenix, he Is a newspaper man there. Twila Mcln-elly and daughter-in-law Betty held a quilting last week and got It off in spite of the heat. Drove to Tropic and Joined Barbara Mecham for a trip to Richfield, her two youngest girls went along. We had a good visit and she filled me In on news of the Long Valley people. Visited briefly with Mrs. Ahlstrom at the station in Tropic and found we were from the same county. Art Lynn and SI Crofts flew from Vernal on sawmill and timber business. Berlin Osborn had most of his family home for Father's Day, Kent and wife. Mack and Jo Barney and family came from Cedar City, and Bernice Goulding and daughter from Henrieville. Mary Errett held an afternoon tea to show her appreciation to the Singing Mothers for the lovely Friendship quilt they gave her, she displayed the quilt to friends and neighbors. Her husband Ernie came home from out of State, they hope to get some industry here so they do not have to move. Kim and Evelyn Lay are here from Kearns, they spoke In the South ward meeting, so did Cal Porter and Harve Bailey. The North ward also listened to Harve, and Hal Shurtz and Vernon Spencer. Bryce Cottam graduated from the South ward Primary. Jim Spencer is here. Randy Shirts, son of Dr. and Mrs. Morris Alpine Shirts of Cedar City and a student at BYU has been honored as the outstanding physical chemist The presentation of the award was made at the awards banquet of the Chemistry Department held recently. Dr. and Mrs. Shirts were on hand for the presentation Randy Is majoring In chemistry and minor -ing In math at BYU and Is currently maintaining a 3.98 grade point average. In addition . Shirts had advanced one year over the normal study program at BYU. He is attending on a 4 year Nat'l merit scholarship. He was offered a Kennecott scholarship on account of being a physical chemist but turned it down to go on an LDS mission to the South Spanish ' mission with headquarters at Vera Cruse, Mexico. If you think the heat unbearable, something you cannot endure, you'd better reform or sure as you're born you may wind up where there's more. |
