Show Escalante Chit Cha BY FAY ALVEY The weather is mostly mild and delightful and we keep wondering when we will get winter. It will probably be when everyone gets all stripped down for summer. The cattle men are concerned about water for the cattle so are building tanks down the desert. Trying to help with one such project put Melvin Wayne Alvey in the hospital for 48 hours for treatment of burns. He carried a bag of cement and dropped It Into a tub con taining loose dry cement which flew all over him so fast he did not have time to shut his eyes. The first thing they did was put water on him which activated the lime causing the burns. He was treated in the Panguitch hospital and has been back for a checkup which showed no eye damage. The Grant Spencers got word that son Keith is out of the hospital and has been promised a desk job until he gets thoroughly over his injuries, his face is badly scarred. Grant and Laretta have daughter Gall and her little girl home, they also had a visit from Vlc-kl and Clement Davis and boys from Panguitch. Donald and Linda had their tiny daughter christened and given the name of Sheila in South ward Fast meeting, Donald did the honors. They are moving their trailer house onto part of Grant's lot. They had a visit from Linda's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denny Lin-ford from Panguitch. Mary Lyman is quite ill, her daughter Orabel Weigle drove from Salt Lake City to help care for her, then Gwen and Randal went to Cedar City to meet Vida Harrison who flew from Idaho. Lee Smith took Hode Alvey to Page for arm examination, he still could not have the cast removed. Boyd and Opal Alvey came from Salt Lake City for some of their belongings, Boyd got a Job with Merl's husband Venice Hansen finishing surfaces In homes. Walt and Virginia Dane went to Las Vegas where their granddaughter had a date to have her tonsils out, she caught cold and had to postpone it so they can use that same excuse again. The Danes had as house guests Ted and Lu-anna Marshall of Laa Vegas Mr. Marshall is now a practicing attorney there, and a former district attorney for Clark County. He was asked to speak In the North ward Sacrament meeting Sunday and gave a short but meaningful talk urging us all to have tolerance, and to accept those outside tht church for what they can contribute to the community, also citing how the Prophet Joseph's life had been saved by a non-church member. The Danes also entertained son Lee and family and other Las Vegas friends who made the week end trip to Escalante. Our daughter ReNae Bund rant called from Boise. Idaho saying her mother-in law, Bet-tv Bundrant had nassed away In a Boise hospital, she had I surgery and could not recover. They are taking her to Richland, Washington for burial. Donna and Gall Bailey went to Richfield to see Gloria Win-kel and family, they came to the State with the M Men basketball team, he is one of the players. The Baileys are planning a trip to Texas. The towns folks have followed with Interest the basket ball record of the team coached by Vernon Dean Roundy and congratulate all of them on taking the State in Class B tournament Many people including his parents, Ott and Hilda Roundy attended the games. Dee and Elda Haws had a weekend visit from daughter Jean Stock from Salt Lake. Thais and Gene Griffin had a visit from her folks, the WU-ford Roes and one of Thals's sisters, from Panguitch. Ron and Linda Mecham and family went to Cedar for the weekend. The Calvin Shurts home had Ivan and Klea and daughter here from Cedar City. Robert and Louise Liston, La Fay e and McKay Bailey went to Colorado. Shlrlee Spencer and daughter Tammy went to American Fork to see Dottle. Clyde and Lillie Spencer are home after visiting all of their family members, and they did not have to leave the State; Doug and Marie Loslee In Richfield, Venice and Talmage Taylor In Delta, J. C. and Opal In Maple-ton, and Jim and Janet In Pro-vo. They enjoyed the basket ball games of Jim's team. Judy Kelly and Phyllis Alvey went to New Mexico to visit family members. Bessie and Katheryn Griffin went to California to see about their Inheritance. Kolleen Griffin became a grandmother with the birth of a girl to Kent and Marlyn. The Ron Schows have a new grandson born to daughter Susie. The Wayne Greenoughs have a new daughter. Don Shurtz and Emmorn Dodds went on a Job in the Panguitch area. Visitors at the S pence Haycock home were Jerry Jones of Cedar City and Mary Rich from the Pines. All you youngsters get in shape for the Easter egg hunt again this year held Saturday, March 28th. The Enthusiasts Club is planning it and hopes that the business houses will assist them again. The Stake MIA is busily preparing a Youth night to be held here on March 24th and in Tropic the 25th, held in the High School gyms and everyone Is invited. Dlanne and Darrell Alvey had a visit from her father. BUI Cluff and his friend Rex Beach from Wlckenburg, Arizona. It seems that Las Vegas was the popular place to bo; Kay Gatts went there to visit Jeff Thomson, others there were Claron and Rubv Griffin, Mont and Ethyl Griff lr, Lane and Geraldlne Liston, Theron and Dixie Mitchell. Ivan and Nelda Willis had business In Salt Lake City. Rol Porter went to Panguitch for a school board meeting, Dee Haws also had business there. Marie Hall spent a week In Cedar City visiting son Joe and family and Marilla and Rulon Jolley and family. It seems to be the quilting season : Millie Mclnelly, Sariah Alvey and Evadean Liston done quilts. Evadean can't afford to do very many as some of her stitchers were a bit rough on the furniture. Stan and Neta Haycock and daughter Janis spent a night with Helen and son in Monroe, they found Clarice Griffin in Panguitch visiting her way home and brought her the last lap. Others going to Richfield were Janet Cleave, Rol and Mina Porter, Dee Haws, and we Alveys, Mother, Slim and myself. Talked to Rhoda Bar ney, she said her mother Maud Reynolds is back with her. She came from Arizona with Neal Magleby but she was riding up front. Saw Donna Rae Barker and two sons, Beth Coleman and Helen Haycock. Blake Robinson and Billie Davis went to Cedar City for a Valley Finance meeting. Arthur and Twila Mclnelly went to Boulder to what turned out to be a Moosman family reunion, Harvey and Roy came there to visit so they called the Mclnel-lys and the other brother Preston who lived in Wayne County. They stayed there a night then the three visiting brothers and wives came here and stayed overnight. It was the first they had all been together since their mother passed away. Lillie Spencer had a letter from her relative Wilford Barney and was thrilled to hear that he and his wife are stake missionaries in Calif. Pat and Bob Sorensen took a vacation before the rush starts. Meeting Sunday was High council day, the South ward speakers were Lorell Munson and Lorenzo Griffin, the North ward had their conference and heard from Mr. Marshall. Lorell and Nelda just returned from a tour of all of the LDS temples in our country. Horse power is discussed a lot and is valued quite a bit but it seemed a whole lot safer when only horses had It. |
