Show Bobcat Shot Put Ace Goes Up-state R Is off to Salt Lake City and the state Track Meet for Coach Englestead and Pan gultch'a great shot putter, BUI Frandsen, this weekend. Bill qualified for the state meet by winning first place in the shot at the recent Region 7 meet held in Richfield, with a dis tance of 46 feet 5 Inches. Other Bobcats placed well in the Richfield meet but Frandsen was the only one to win a first in the 15 school meet. The Panguitch Bobcat track team has had a fine season this year. They won the Valley Invitational early in the sea son. Since that time the team has participated In the Dixie Invitational in which they ihowed well, trounced Piute In a dual meet at Panguitch in which the 'cats won 13 first places of 16 events, scoring 89 point! to 43 for Piute, plsced another trophy In the show case by winning the District track meet with 105 polnti to Bryce Valley's 54, Piute 48. Valley 41 and 35 point! for Escalante The Panguitch High team won 10 first places in the meet, including all three relays. Consistant pout winners for Panguitch all season have been Frandsen In the shot and discus; Dennis Dal ton In the 100, 440, long jump, and mile re lay; John Orton in the 440, 220, pole vault, and relays; Larry Black and Russell Bulk ley In the hurdles; Robert Yardley and Richard Dlx in the mile; John Yardley, Ricky Sawyer and Charles Barney in the 880; Clem McEwen, Kenny Orton and John Yardley in the high jump; Steve Hatch, Larry Black, Craig Barney and Dennis Henderson In the long jump ; John Burton Crofts and Henderson in the sprints; Ron Hatch in the low hurdles and relays; Lanny Talbot running the 880 in the medley relay; and Frank and Dave Houston In the low hurdles and relays. Other boys who did well were Dave and Wally Veater, Stephen Moore, James Proctor, Val Henrie, Donald Stowell. Steve Dodds, and Kim Proctor. Jim Richards and Danny Fry have acted capably as managers and Pat Crofts as chief statistician and score-keeper. Coach Englestead has been ably assisted by Delin Roundy. the head wrestling coach, and by Kay Englestead who has been doing his student teaching at Panguitch High this quarter. Coach Englestead assesses the season as very successful and is pleased with the response of the hoys who have worked hard to rejuvenate track in PHS. |
