Most everyone seems to be anticipating some thing wonderful, maybe itwil1 be that boom that has been predicted for years. The road contractor's superintendent is here getting ready to start this long hoped for road, he says he, has had enough men ask for work to build it with shovels. Their signs are posted in front of Cook Liston's and straight across the street, between Hyrum Coleman's and the home of Lena Rollins and on Aunt Susan's corner. Andrew Spencer made quite a stay in the Panguitch hospital being treated for a difficulty with his breathing and an infection, he was gradually getting better. Cliff Reynolds finally decided he had better go to a doctor, he felt so rugged It was even hard for him to cuss, so he made two trips to Panguitch. Maud accompanied him and some of their family met them there and in Cannonville. Marlyn Brant made grandparents of Vernon and Hazel Griffin when she gave birth to a fine baby boy at the Panguitch hospital; Mrs. Marvin Porter also had a boy, another grandson for Whltey and Maralda. The Arnold Alveys took his parents, Sariah and James to Gunnison, where Ray L. came from Toy and picked them up. taking them north so James could see a skin specialist about a breaking out he had on arms and legs. Ivan and Nelda Willis went to San Diego to visit daughter Maureen Dean and family for a week, Nelda's mother, Alta Henderson came from Cannonville to stay with Lowell in their absence. Garna Willis was here for the weekend, other CSU students we noticed were Sharon Dale, Shirley and Kathleen Marsh, Car-lyle and Barbra Shurtz, Lana and Boyd Alvey, Raymond Griffin, Bonnie Spencer and her roommate Shanah Thomas of Panguitch, Shannah is the daughter of Mrs. Thomas, the nurse at the hospital. Lavina Pollock is home from California and reports having the most wonderful granddaughter, she and her mother Faye are both doing fine, the father lived through the experience too. Alan and Lavina went to Richfield to .help celebrate the birthday anniversary of Guy's second boy Stanley. Caroline and Vergene Porter and family were visitors at the J. Clyde Spencer home, they would have visited Rol and Mina Porter but those old tykes went north for a visit and just keep staying. Lera Schow came from Salt Lake to visit his parents the Mike Schows, Corine planned to come but one of her coworkers took sick so Corine had to work. Bill and Cliff Lictenhahn are back home after wintering in Colorado; they plan on bringing their 94 year old mother here for a visit to their cave home this summer. Caroline Strang entertained the Better Homes Club assisted by her mother, Mrs. Horton of Circleville. Geral-dine Liston entertained the Friendship Club. The Gar-kane Telephone Company held a meeting here last week under the direction of President LeGrande Heaton of Or-derville. Mrs. Heaton accompanied him to visit and shop during the meeting. Delia McFarland and daughter, Char-Paula came from Cedar City for the weekend. The Cliff Reynolds home had Sunday visitors; Allene Riddle from Henrieville and Leida Dunham of Cannonville. Dorothy Rae Barney came for the weekend with Vernon Dean and Larae Rou-dy. Glover Smith had his sisters and husbands here Sunday visiting; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Verl Palmer and his sister Emma and her husband, we could not find out the husbands name. Tho Bish Schows had son Warren from Salt Lake here visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stocks of Cannonville were at the wedding reception. Friends of Sopha Schurtz got word she was in the hospital recovering from an operation on her foot. Reed Wooley went to Panguitch for a medical checkup. Margene Stowe is clerking part time In the Davis store. Minnie Da vis and Bonnie Smith took Bonnie's son Robert to Panguitch for a medical checkup, they picked Leda Mae. Foster up in Tropic and took her to the. Dentist. Gall and Reva Bailey and daughter Gloria have been to Arizona for a week; they visited Bob and Sandra Porter and daughter in their new home. Sandra told them that Lawana Pratt and her missionary (Continued On Back Page) ESCALANTE (continued) companion had been there for dinner and a good visit, Reva tried to get in touch with Lawana by telephone but did not make connections. Iteva said her brother Evan Peterson and wife are stake missionaries. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the Seminaries of tho Stake put on the programs; Gary Wayne Graf took his students to the North Ward where they presented 13 talks and two songs. Joe Allen brought his students from the Bryce Valley school to the South Ward where they gave six talks and one song. Ott Roundy had the privilege of baptizing his son-in-law into the LDS Church several days before the wedding, Ott says he and Hilda are where they were in the beginning only now they aro too old to start over. The reception was an outstanding affair; the invocation was given by Ray Griffin. Neta Shirts was Master of Ceremonies with the following program: song Deon Alvey, Marlene Haws and Geraldino Liston accompanied by Janet Spencer; Readin gLillian. Coleman; Song the cousins three, Vicky Shurtz, Nicky Griffin and Gloria Bailey accompanied by Dawn Griffin; song Brenda and Julie Shurtz accompanied by their father Hal; Reading Fay Alvey; song David Ray Shurtz and Paul Michael Cordon. The evening was spent in dancing aand refreshments were serv' ed. DUP meeting was held on Valentine Day with a good attendance and the outlined lesson presented, Renee Os- born gave a history of her great grandfather. Heart shaped decorated cookies and ice cream were served. Valentine's Day is over with verses and fancy hearts; now March Is not far distant when windy weather starts. |
