Show Geological Survey Honors Champ Myers A. U. S. Geological Survey Project Engineer has been honored for a significant contribution to efficient plan-.ning and supervision of new Federal Government mapping program. Champ C. Myers was awarded the Superior Performance award for outstanding work on the McDowell Project near Phoenix, Arizona. Champ was the project engineer for the 2,815 square mile McDowell-New River projects. This was the project selected for testing of a new development of the Washington Research known as the Airborne-Control System. Initial planning for the integration of this system into his operations began in November, 1962. Mr. Myers began his normal field operations in January, 1963, with eight engineers and two field assistants and two helicopters. A normal helicopter-supported project is in itself an important assignment requiring intensive technical and logistical planning of daily operatons. Mr. Myers planning and coordination of the operational research project into, his al- Champ C. Myers ready complex operation was masterful and made it possible to obtain all the necessary data to evaluate the ABC system. His willingness to work many extra hours and his ability to maintain excellent esprit de corps among his party while they were also putting in extra hours, contributed immeasurably to the sue-, cess of the tests. Champ is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Caesar Myers of Panguitch. He is married and lives with his wife and two children at 935 Moreno Avenue, Palo Alto, California. He has worked for the government for 26 years. |
