Show Indications Foretell Banner Tourist Year Considerable speculation exits throughout Utah as to whether this summer's travel season will exceed that of past years. Recent data from the Bryce Canyon National Park would indicate very definitely that Utah will enjoy one of the biggest travel seasons in the state's history, according to Supt. Louis W. Hallock. Travel into Bryce Canyon o-ver the Memorial Day weekend shows an increase of 50.7 perc ent over that for the same period last year. Campground use for the same period shows an ever greater increase, 163 percent. For the travel year to date, from January 1, travel Into the park has increased 19 percent over the same period last year, January 1 to June 1. Comparing travel data for May 1962 with May 1963 it is found that the increase is 38 percent. For example 23,336 persons visited Bryce Canyon in May 1963 while only 16,915 persons vis ited the park in May 1962. The general increase in the number of visitors and families camping out is the most remarkable, showing a 125 per cent increase over last year. It is interesting to note that the new Sunset Campground completed last summer was expected to meet camping needs for several years to come. According to present upward travel trends this campground will not meet the requirements for the 1964 season. |
