Show Beat The Borers COUNTY AGENT'S NOTES We have had a number of calls from folks concerned with borers on their fruit trees. These insects work on peach, apricot, plum and cherry trees. Now is a good time to control these pests. Apply a strong solution of DDT or dieldrin spray, to the lower two feet of , the trunk of each tree and to the adjacent soil. This insecticide is to kill the emerging moths end any growing larvae which hatch out and wander about the sprayed surfaces. Growers should avoid getting this spray on either the foliage or fruit. Trees should be treated whether they have fruit on or not. Stone fruits are especially susceptible to peach tree borer injury. |
