Show Panguitch Gets A Gully Washer U.S. FOREST SERVICE NEWS On Wednesday, August 3rd, Panguitch was deluged by a heavy thunder shower. More than 34 inch of rain fell in less than 20 minutes. Although the downpour was of short duration, it fell with the intensity of over 2.25 inches per hour. The runoff filled the main street gutters and flooded the sidewalks. This storm brought the precipitation for the past week up to 1.03 of an inch, .99 of this amount has been measured since August 1st and more storms are predicted. High temperature for the period of July 28 to Aug. 4 was 89' occuring Friday, July 29, and the low temperature 50 , being recorded on 3 different days during this period. Powell District Ranger Bruce Hronek reports that the crews were burning logging slash in the Dave's Hollow Timber Sale area during the past week. Even though light rain showers occurred on the area nearly every afternoon, the slash piles burned satisfactorily. After several days of drier weather occur, the Powell District crews plan to ignite and burn 40 acres of tractor piled slash in the Dave's Hollow area. These burning operations reduce the hazard of wildfire and prepare the' ground for reforestation. |
