Show Escalante Chit Chat KAY LVEY , - - The sunshine looks warm but that wind reminds us winter is still here. A brave mead-owlark tried to sound cheerful but his song had a frosty flavor. The County trucks are still hauling dirt from the humps and dumping in the hollows and the wind is moving it right along. Some of the oil people have become discouraged with the slump in our boom and moved on to greener pastures, others stayed here to starve' with the rest of us. There are still abundant chicken pox, some measles and a few having a swell time with mumps. The upper class has flu and the common folks just colds. Our flying Dr. Kazan and his nurse Mary Ann are diagnosing and treating more ailments each week. Dr. Duggins held his clinic here last week with tho assistance of Lizzie Porter. Eldred Mitchell spent two days last week at Camp Williams attending an atomic school. Neta Haycock went to Ogden on school lunch business, she talked to J. C. and Eva Haws of Brigham City. Relatives here got word that William Mitchell had undergone surgery in California. Forest and Ruth Alvey went to Kan-osh for the testimonial of one of her nephews. The James Mclnellys and the Morias Halls had daughters Elma and Lillian home from Salt Lake for a brief visit, they had a girl friend with them. The annual 17th of March party will be held March 20th, Saturday, in the South ward church; dinner will be served j at noon followed by a program, J and a dance at night in the I high school gym. Everyone 1 married or over 25 are invlt- ed to attend. Arthur and Twila Mclnelly went to Boulder for 5 a family dinner at the Max Be- hunin home, two of the Moos- man boys, Harvey of Ogden and LeRoy of Mt Pleasant and their wives were there, they stopped here for breakfast at the Mclnelly home. Kent and Phyllis of Panguitch were here for the weekend; Phyllis .is getting over her operation fairly well. Billie Barker was here from St. George for a brief visit. Ivan and Nelda Willis had son Ellwood and family here from Salina for the weekend. The Ray and the Bill Griffins spent a weekend in Las Vegas and all returned home with their shirts. Judy Kelly returned home in time for her kids tQ have chicken pox, one little girl broke her arm while they were away. Reeves Baker went to St. George for the Bull Sale and returned home with a fine speciman, Reeves also had business in Richfield, Laura accompanied him to see her doctor. Deon Alvey and daughter Denise went to Tropic to Dr. Mason the day he held his clinic there. Those we heard of going to Panguitch for medical checkups were Ivan and Nelda Willis, Mr. and Mrs. Clayt Porter and daughter Garneal Smith. Vincent and LaRue Spencer spent 24 hours going to and coming back from Salt Lake to see son Kenneth before he boarded the plane to leave fcr the South West British mission, son Ronald accompanied there, there were 23 in Kenneth's missionary group. La-Vern Griffin was home for the weekend, his job is almost finished in the Green River area, then he will go to Vernal. The Coleman people here have had visits from their parents, Parley and Ester from Wayne County, John and Ada Perky of Nebraska, Vicki of (continued on back page) ESCALANTE (conlinu.d) Boulder and Jerry of Kanab. Mr. and Mrs. Adams and Mr. and Mrs. Croft of Burley, Idaho were visitors at the Thell Barney home, the Barneys took them on guided tours of our scenic attractions. Dale Barney and Paul Hansen went to Marble Canyon seeking employment. Dave and Yulond Mclnelly went to Mesa, Arizona. Theo and Nell Barker had a weekend visit from Paul and Gayla Cardon and family of Manti. Chester and Ruth Lay went to Salt Lake where Maggie Lay and Melba Neiwert was to meet them to attend the wedding of Melba's son Ronnie Richardson, then Maggie was coming home with Chester and Ruth. They planned to bring Ruth's son, Lonnie. Fullmer from Provo if his doctor would let him travel. Starns and Faun Mecham spent Sunday In Tropic with the Malen Mechams. The Junior class held a record hop on Saturday night. Renee Osborn entertained the Better Homes Club and had Ivan Thornton show pictures and tell about the Forest Service work. La-Faye and Gloria Bailey, Nicki Griffin and Vickl Shurtz went to Richfield to sing two numbers as a quartet acappella, they did not place in the contest but had some good experience. Relatives here got word that Elder Vaughn Alvey, son of former residents Howard and Lena Alvey of Holliday is leaving for a LDS mission to the Canadian mission. Nancy Drue-bay celebrated her birthday anniversary with the help of Minnie and Billie Davis, the Blake Robinsons,, the Don Kel-leys, the Paul Steeds, and the LeFair Halls. One of our local orchestras went to Panguitch to play for a dance, this one has Betty and Edson Alvey, Alburn and Gene Griffin and Lynn Gates. Our M Men team played Glen-wood and won and got beat by the Richfield team. Three of our teachers, Hal Shurtz, Mar-jle Spencer and her student teacher, Joan Westergarde, went to Panguitch for a meeting and got in on these M Men games. Anchor all moveables down, that March wind will soon be around to rattle and twist all things that exist and carry them right out of town. |
