It's the 39th annual edition of the fabulous razzle dazzle Trotters, those minions of mirth, who have carried their cage artistry and fantastic fun to 87 countries of the earth. All six continents have rocked and rolled to their delightful didoes. Abe Saperstein, founder, owner and coach all rolled Into one, thinks this is the greatest of all Globetrotter aggregations. Because of the near 8500 games they have played since theii inception, the Trotters set some sort of a record every second they are on the court. It could be for most games played, most won, most points scored, most field goals, most free throws, most seconds played, most miles traveled, most customers lured through the turnstyles --even for most fouls committed. There's no other quintet In existence anywhere close to their statistics or accomplishments. True to the tried and long-tested Saperstein formula for crowd-pleasing, the coming show is sure to excite from start to finish. The tall and torrid Trotters will floor a crack ensemble headed by the internationally-celebrated court jesters, Bob (Showboat) Hall and J. C. Gipson, funnier than ever with' new tricks added to their already-extensive repertoire. They will be assisted by such aces as Bobby Milton, Hubert Ausbie, Manny Oliver, Doug Hlmes, Mel Davis, LeRoy Gibson and dribbling Dave Gaines. Challenging them will be a potent array of Nationals, brought together from professional and college ranks with the purpose of giving the Trotters the best brand of competition possible. The Nationals have been in action a number of years and won the right to again travel with the Trotters off showing In recent years, Including the tour around the world they made with them last year. The Nationals have the height, experience and capabilities to extend the Trotters. Between halves, and even in front of the game, Saper-stein will bring on his stars of another field to keep the fans entertained. They are the show businss talents from all over the world he has chosen with as much care as he has his basketball players: Peg-Leg Bates, sensational one-legged dancing star; International table tennis champions Richard Bergmann of England and Lee Dal Joon of South Korea; Mike LeMay, fancy Canadian acrobat; George Lee, Chinese equilibrist; Lee Marx, standout juggler, and trampoline ace Steve Parry. |
