We did not know that Mildred Allen had been to Salt Lake and had surgery until she was all better and back home, the operation was a success. Alden Moves is also better, his children Sherry and Ernest came to visit him so when he went to the hospital Leda Pratt took them. Ml-na Porter is still having trou- , ble with her arm and shoul der and went back to Panguitch to the doctor. Mac Vonn Taylor, Dawn Griffin and Sarlah Alvey also went to Panguitch for medical check-' ups, and of course more pills. Hode Alvey got hurt at Glen Canyon Dam; he fell from about a fifteen foot lad- ; der landing on his feet break- ! Ing one heel and mashing the other, fteed Wooley took Ila down to Glen City whero their daughter Ilene Coffman lives and together they went to the hospital where Hode will have to stay until the swelling is down enough for his heels to be put in casts, or whatever they do with ruined heels. Ilene brought her mother homa and stayed for tho weekend. The James Mclnellys have moved their trailer house back to the Dam. Looked like most of the local folks working at the Dam wero here for the weekend. The Dlake Robinsons got word that their grandson, Ilhoda's baby Is some Improved, they had nen Porter and three children here visiting. More members of the Porter family stayed at the Dolane Griffin home; Lee and Mary, Bud with his wife and iamily of Provo, the Richard Sharps and family of Bountiful (that's Edith), they all left Sunday except Lee who plans to stay until after conference. The Lorenzo Griffins got word that they have a new granddaughter born to the Gerald Griffins in San Diego, Calif. El Ray Nixon and family of Texas have bsen here visiting (continued on back page) . ESCALANTE at the Robert Iiston home. Orson Spencer came from Salt Lake to visit a week with brother Thurman and family out on the Ranch, Thurman, Marjoric and three boys went to Oak City to visit Thurman's sister Mavis and family. A high light of last week was the House Warming kitchen shower given for Joanna Barker in her new home; eighteen of the town ladies who had lived quite a spell were in attendance (they do not like to be called old), the afternoon was spent in visiting and talking over old times, refreshments were served. Speakers In Sacrament meeting Sunday were North ward: Wallace Roundy, Earl Wool-sey and Clayton Porter; In the South , Pres. J. Clyde Spencer and Gordon Stevens, Gordon bid folks goodbye as he Is being transferred to Cedar City; his wife Amy gave a chips and dip party last week to a small group of ladles, it was Hawaiian style so clever and artistic the ladies reported having had a very enjoyable evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Vestal and family of Calif, were visiting their mother Elthere Alvey, she is Madge. Renon Peterron came from Boulder taking Janeal Shurtz to Panguitch for medical checkups. Hal Shurtz is pouring cement for a' driveway, another project to get In trim for school. Billie Barker came from St George to remove the last of his possessions from his old home. Mary Ellen Lay from Marysvalc was here visiting relatives, Clayt Porter and the Joe Schows. Usher and Eva Spencer made a trip to Provo on business and to visit their children. Twila and Guy Lemming had her daughter Gay-tha and her family here visiting, when they went back north they took Will R. Por-ter to visit relatives. The Lor-in Griffin home Is rather vacant now as Alvin took his three daughters back t o Wayne County then he and wife Patricia went to Wyoming to visit her folks, then to Denver where they both plan to reenllst In the Army, they had been released after their hitch, he put In three years and she two and one half, they spent two years In Land-stahl, Germany at the second general Military Hospital. The Ernie Griffins have granddaughter Joan here from Wayne County, she is the daughter of the late Dorthy Davis. Charley and Rae Fynan took Lola Zenz to Richfield to get her back fixed, Melvin Alvey should have accompanied them as his back is all out of kilter. Charley and Rae took her mc4her to see Hole in the Rock" and while they were gone some friends, the Jack Chambers of Whittier, Calif, came to visit, they had never met John and Lola Zenz but went there and stayed until the Fynans returned. Folks who realize the dangers of swimming in polly-wog infested water want to warn parents to keep their children out of the stuff for fear of polio and other diseases. The Wallace Roundys made it home ok with daughter Betty as chauffeur, they vsitcd Alma and Edle Heaps In Midvale and report them feeling much better, Almieis raising a garden; they brought their grandson, Steven Smith (Edna's son) and a boy friend, John Forbo, both of Seattle, Washington, to vacation awhile before school starts. Their grandson Ferrel Roundy, his wife and her brother and parents, Mr. and Mrs Axman of Salt Lake City visited with them and at the Joe Schow home, Schows had the whole group for Sunday dinner, also Bernard and Ora, twelve in all. Schows had an-other car load of company, Lo-rin and Maud Robinson and family, eight in all, they were their neighbors in St. George. The family of the late Will and Amanda Peterson held their family reunion at Blue Spruce over the weekend, they were all present except Evan, Ruby and Lars, the latter was in the Spanish Fork hospital with flu, Ruby came to Pleasant Creek where they had planned to meet but on account of road conditions they changed to Blue Spruce. The group enjoyed fishing, games and a program where each member took part and-was presented with a candy bar by Reva Bailey. Saturday was a mighty long day, we .. left Escalante at 3: A.M., ' took Slim to Long Valley to work, then to Richfield for a dental date, then attended the Alvey Reunion, those going from here were the S. J.'s and the Melvin Alveys, Jane Woolsey and Susan Heaps, Forest Alvey and his children, the LaDell Alveys and Rolane Lyman and children. Darrel Alvey, Robert Liston and Blake Robinson went to a horse sale at Richfield, Darrel and Robert each bringing home one. What would the' folks from . the city do for a pWce to visit and rest. If they had no country relation to keep them as a guest? |
