Show ESCALANTE CHIT CHAT By Fay Alvcy The peace and quiet of our little village Is broken by planes taking an oil rig belonging to tha Pan American Oil Co. up onto the Antone flat where they plan to drill. The weather is typ'cally Spring, heat, cold, wind and even a nice shower. As far as we could learn the sick are all better; Caramon Smith came home then had to go back for some repair work but she is out and around. My news gathering partner, Sarlah Alvey is still in the hospital but is getting bet-tcr each day, she has a cold which is keeping her there; some of her family have vis-ited her each day except one, then fome of them called. Ray L. and wife came from Roy for the long weekend, and the Ronald Freemans came from Salt Lake. The JIayock family, Stan, Leone and Spencer have ill made .trips to Panguitch to visit thei' brother Garn who Is hospital- ized there after a serious accident. Ray Griffin had to go to Dr. Duggins with a bad back and other ailments, Mel-ba Gates, Dawn Griffin and Geneal Shurtz and small son cccompanied him. Claron Barney makes his regular trips to the Dr. and drug store. Allio and Nelda Spencer and Verda Liston also visited the doctors. Maud and Cliff Reynolds have a new granddaughter born to Tom and Ann in Ka-nab; Nellie Bailey is home after helping to usher into the world a new granddaughter born to Calvin and Martha Rao Schow, The Bish Schows have sen Dick and family here, they also visited Aunt Al Porter The Tom Davenports and anot'aer couple from Salt Lake visited the Eish Schows. Pratt Gates took the Charley Baileys to Salt Lake where Charley was to have a medical checkup and AUce met daughter Helen Schow and to-(continuid inside) ESCALANTE gether they were flying to the Islands on a vacation, Charley said ho would rather go to Canada on his vacation. Ernlo Griffin is home from his vacation at the Haws shecpherd and he and Clarice arc planning a trip, but they can't decide whether to go to Posey Lake or Calf Creek. Leone Gates and family aro hero visiting his brother Pratt. Howard Alvey and part of his family were visitors at the Allen Pollock home. Allen and Lavina made a trjp to Richfield where Guy's son Steven had to be hospitalized with a bad case of Infection. Maud and Cliff Reynolds havo had more company: their Rock Hound friends from Nevada, the Parks and the Flea-hartys, they went with them hunting rocks and scenery; their daughter Rhoda Barney and children and some more of that mixed up relation: Maud's brother and Cliff's nephew Galo Reynolds and wife, Maud's nephew and brother-in-law to Cliff but only one man and wife. Park Shurtz and family arc here; Blllie Barker came just passing through; Rudger and Velora Schurtz brought So-pha down to decorate graves and visit Sarlah Alvey; Eliza Mclnelly had son Lester and part of his family and daughter Ada Heaps: the Ott Roun-dys had son Vernon Dean home. Ernel Porter, his sister Wenona and her husband came for Decoration Day. The John Zenz home was filled to overflowing again: Paul and Betty Stocklnger from South Bend, Indiana; Tony and Bobby Van Hemert from L.A. Earl Woolsey had most of his family here for the weekend: Hal and wife from Kearns, Kllnt and family from Lay-ton, Earlene and Hojncr Nelson of Green River, Utah, and Clella Woolsey from Green River, Wyoming; Hardy could not get off work but their daughter Judy, her husband and baby came. Earl and Nethella made a trip to Gunnison to attend the graduation services of Alayne, daughter of Laverd and Howard Larsen. Ed Lay had son Hazen and family here. Elno-ra Pratt has her sister Barb-ra here visiting. Flora Bard-well came and gave her foods demonstration as scheduled. The Wallace Roundy's got word that their grandson Elliot Smith, son of their daughter Edna of Seattle, Washington had entered a musical contest of forty bands at Bremer- ton, Washington, and he won first placo on his - alto saxophone, he graduates from high school this Spring and is a professional dancer. The Wallace Roundys and the Andrew Spencers went to Boul dcr whero Andy and Wallace had speaking assignments, then they all had dinner at the Ivan Lyman home. Faun and Starns Mecham went to GrantJvillo for the funeral services of Theo By-bee, a cousin of Starns and a good friend of Faun. That dancing man, Tex Young came back. Last year's Seminary teacher, Marion Davidson, his wife and two children were here visiting and did the talking in the South ward Sacrament meeting Sunday. Val Harrison played aa flute solo accompanied by Dawn Griffin. Morris and Ncta Sh'rts went to Ogden to move daughter Carol Joy and son-in-law J. Arthur Cooper to Panguitch for the summer; Neta celebrated her ' birthday before leaving by cleaning up her house and yards, she had been tripping around the scenic places entertaining her sister Emma and her husband Joe whom we missed last week, he is recovering from a serious operation. The Morlas Hall home had the Mack Stef-fensens and nine children of Salt Lake City visiting. The Lorin Cottanu had daughter Elna Creek and children of Mossyrock, Washington home. Most of the Will Peterson family were visiting relatives and friends: Rulon and Dr. Lars, Vcrl and Roy Hardwlck, and Ruby and Garn Craycraft Bp. Lorell Munson and wife have a new son. The Clyde spencers had the Douglas Loslccs of Rich- 1 field as weekend visitors. Tho Whitcy Porters have son Marvin homo on furlough before going overseas. In tho North ward Sacrament meeting B;llic Barker and Newell Cowles did the talking and there was a doubl? trio by Louise and Alberta Liston, Rula Spencer, Jancal Shurtz, Thclma Cottam and Yucon Norman. This time of year the ch 1-dren say, "School is out, Oh Happy Day". But poor old Mom, this time of year sighs and sheds a nervous tear. |
