Show THE WORD FROM BOULDER BY NETIIELLA GRIFFIN We arc glad to hear ttv.it the controversy over the "Dump" road has at last been settled and that reconstruction is to be made In the "near future". We are also pleased to hear that the State Highway Commission is to meet at Bryce Canyon next Friday. A delegation of Boulder and Escalanto people will ask for permission to present their plea to the commission for a start on the oil surfacing of the road from Escalante to Boulder. We believe that this should bo the next step, modernizing of ALL of Highway 54. Boulder school children must now ride the bus twice a day over this 29-mlle stretch of bumpy, dusty (or muddy) road. ' We also want the Commission to consider for future planning the surfacing, of Highway 117 arourid' the' Boulder mountain to connect with Highway 24 at Torrey. Also we would like them to think hard about the advantages of a road through Circle Cliffs to Join 24 this side of Hanksvillo. When completed, this route would throw wide open Utah'$ southeast door to admit eastern traffic that now goes south from Pueblo, Colorado, to Highway 68 and so on to the coast Instead, much of the traffic would come by the more direct route, with the bonus of Utah's scenic parks and other lavish attractions all the way. Towns like Pangultch and Kanab might see more winter tourists coming to them from this direction than now come on Highway 89. My conscience has been hurting all week because I told Allen Cameron and his professional photograph- ers that I thought the Circle Cliffs road was okay. 1 found out later about a bad washout in the Draw, Just a few miles out. I hope they turned back (continued inside) ESCALANTE wards but made one final presentation running some of us in the 11th hour to take the places of folks who had gone away. In the South ward Julie Morris and the Marion Davidsons did the talking and Eva dean Hamilton sang a song. The Paul Cordons had their small son's tonsils out last week. Ivan and Nelda Willis got word from their daughter Maurine in San Francisco that their baby son Is out of the hospital now and doing ok; Maurine told of a big thrill she had, went to church and the man in charge announced that they would now be entertained by a musician from the little town of Escalante in Utah and Richard (Dick) Christiansen, son of Delia and the late Rich, played beautifully for them, she managed to talk to him afterwards , we are proud of Dick and know that he will go places. Maud Reynolds has been to Henrie-ville visiting and digging up history of her dead ancestors. Isn't it a tired time of the year? This following thought I got from Hulda Spencer and put In my own style: My legs ars so sore and weary, I have to massage them with lotion, it's, caused from kicking myself in the pants to keep me in high gear motion. |
